On the contrary it serves to show how large scale events can then go on to infect others by association . How many of these crowds are wearing masks? It will be a terrible shame if all the up coming events are ruined a bunch of selfish football fans

Not forgetting that younger people generally don't become seriously ill with covid so just using case numbers without context is pretty meaningless.

That’s not what you said. You wrote that there were 2000 positive tests from the England v Scotland match. That’s false.

There were 2000 cases associated with watching Euro matches, of which around 1400 were people who had travelled to London and 400 were people who had been in the stadium. That’s out of a total of 32,000 cases recorded in total over the period.

That context matters. Your point above is valid, but the actual numbers paint a much more accurate picture than your false initial claim.

Exactly. And the key thing about the vaccines is that they seem to have kept hospital numbers down

The implication in your post is that the positive cases resulted from the match, ergo it was attendees. This is the spin that the MSM is trying to promulgate. As explained the facts are somewhat different and if 40k people attended and only 200 odd tested positive as a result, the risks are pretty low. Add to that the known fact that young people don't generally go on to suffer severe effects then this is a non story.

For info based upon the published figures, when our rolling average cases were 12 k we had 136 daily deaths. We are currently 14 days after a rate of 11k and our daily deaths reported yesterday were 14. Hospitalisations are equally low compared to the earlier peak periods. Obviously there will be peaks and troughs, as there are with flu and pneumonia but scaremongering won't help.

For more context Covid is below Flu and Pneumonia in the death rate in the UK. We aren't isolating folks for either of those. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/c...e-b933307.html[/MOD]

Whatever The UK press seem to be carrying the story that 2000 plus cases can be attributed to the Match - in the same way it wall exploded on the back of Cheltenham. My post does not say 2000 cases from the match . Still for those who can row with there own shadow carry on

worth remembering that the main conclusion of the govt event research phase one report was that it was really difficult to tell how many cases there actually were from the events because there was no mandatory requirement to take and return a test, and the return rate was very low...

so the real conclusions from that report were that people don't use their brains and put their masks on at pinch points like catering where they're breathing down each others necks, and the co2 level in the nightclub test was exceptionally high. the only thing that is really an issue at silverstone will be being in close proximity to so many people if there's no real breeze (unlikely at silverstone).

so the conclusion is that you should avoid breathing other peoples air wherever you can. that's a lot easier at silverstone where there's a perma-gale than wembley with its enclosed catering areas but still not entirely unavoidable - toilets being a good example.

You may want to re-assess your initial disingenuous post with those numbers and follow up posts about football games. There's very clearly an agenda there.

Honestly a lot of the problem with this stupid pandemic is things like these past few posts - an incorrect statement like "2000 positive cases from a football game". Somebody reads that on the internet, tells a friend, tells another friend and all of a sudden all this misinformation is flying around.

If you are referring to Australia I think you have it wrong datewise. The event originally scheduled for March'21 was postponed until Nov. '21 and unlikely is highly optimistic.
For 2022 the schedule is for it to return to its season opening March date. So the planned 2022 event is roughly 8 months away from now, and many (most locals) feel this is more than unlikely to happen either..

I found this article about the Save Albert Park protest group and though it's from 2000, I thought it was relevant and was wondering how much the Covid-19 pandemic would be grist to their mill. The final paragraph concludes by saying: ''At present, the government believes that the benefits of hosting the Grand Prix outweigh the considerable costs. As long as this is the case (and assuming that Bernie doesn't suddenly decide that he's sick of traveling to Melbourne), the race will remain. As soon as the government decides that it has extracted all it can from the race, it will be let go. It's as simple as that '' With the impact the pandemic has had already, has the government extracted all it can from the race?

They won't because the plans put in place yesterday go out to the end of 2022. The only changes that will definitely happen is if things get worse. For a start they have just halved the number of entries allowed in down to 1500 instead of 3000 people to take the load off the quarantine system. I like your optimism but you don't live here and have no idea of what is driving these decisions. Not all of it is health, it is politically driven from all sides because of the wrong decisions are made the PM will be down at the unemployment office.

Would there be any options in a different part of the country? Wasn't there some regional restriction differences last year?

Just thinking it would be great if there could still be an Oz GP even if a one off event at a different venue
