Ah you see now whilst there I doubt there will be many people in the grandstands (however I doubt these people would have stayed afterwards either) the banks will be packed with people trying to get their spot for the main race, I think more people could see this race now. I just hope that one doesn't blow up spreading oil everywhere!

Don't queue then! Chill out, have some dinner, pack away, we usually manage to get out with no problems about half 8 or 9. Yes I know that some have a long drive - we have about 2 hours, but I'd rather chill out have some dinner etc than sit bored in the traffic!

Or have a drink too, camp the Sunday night and have a relaxed drive home after the rush hour on Monday - that's my plan anyway.

The other half has to go back to work on the Monday otherwise we would.

Yes I saw that too Greem, on their facebook. The plan looks quite good, just a shame they fail to implement stuff like that over on the marshals campsite at times.

Anyone at the campsite yet (I know some of you are early birds!)? Do we have an idea what its state is? Other than wet!

Is there a plan B, if the site is too muddy to get cars, hotorhomes & caravans in?

They'll tow them in with 4x4s or something I'd imagine.

we're onto plan B, we're bringing Tinkerbell the Landrover!

I asked the question about a wet weather plan for the marshals campsite a couple of weeks ago when it was clear that water levels were likely to remain high and was told that the query had been raised at a liaison meeting and that Silverstone circuit confirmed that they had it in hand.

The tracking was ok last time but there was nowhere near enough of it because it was sourced at the last minute and most was still stuck in the bog of Glasto that year. Given that there had been more evidence of poor weather ahead of time this year I'm sure there will be a Plan, especially as Silverstone have a wet weather plan for public camping.

Just got this back from Silverstone.
Q: "Any idea what the state of the marshals campsite is? We need an idea of what to expect when we arrive. Thanks."
A: "Hiya, it is currently wet but we are restricting vehicle movement similar to Woodlands so it should be ok!"
Restricting vehicle movement could prove to be a pain in the for some of us but I guess it's for the best.

That's what happened last time (3 or 4 years ago?) when it was very wet on arrival. We were given the option of putting the car onto the campsite and then not moving it or putting the car in the car park (the one that is straight on from Winters Lane) if we needed to move the car.

Restricting vehicle movements is for the greater good as it stops some of the unnecessary churning up of the site.

The site does need to be usable enough though that we can get to our pitches. The problem last time was that the tracking only went a very short way and once vehicles came off the tracking they sank into the mud - I really hope that there is sufficient tracking this time or that there is a plan to tow people onto the site.

As site users we need to be sensible - no driving to the showers, no wheel spinning in the mud because "it looked like fun" or similar - it sounds daft but we've all seen it going on and it's bleeding selfish.

Now...I wonder what the going rate is for a Landy tow! (that's tempting fate, it's got to get us there first!).

So they now put the main event on the Saturday!!
After 5 shifts in 3 days I'm looking forward to 8 days off.
Off to Lemons for The Classic.
Hope you all enjoy The Circus and it doesn't get too much like Glastonbury.
Stay safe, see you soon.

It has been posted on the silverstone marshals team facebook that in the BGP marshals campsite "there is a strict no movement of vehicles in operation once you are parked these vehicles must stay there" to reduce the risk of the field turning into a mud bath

IMS have this update on the website:

Quote:
Update 3 July 2012: The marshals campsite is obviously wet, however currently the site is in a fair condition. Vehicle movements on the site will be restricted to help preserve this.We would ask for your co-operation with this. Assistance will be provided to any vehicles who encounter difficulties with access.
