That is a brilliant addition to the championship. Well played, Handy!

Like it!
Sounds like one car? And maybe the Avensis goes to Speedworks for a two car Toyota manufacturer entry? |

Alfa Romeo back in the Championship
*collapses* Hopefully it's more 1994 155 than 2001 147! |

Great to see Alfa back, but why don't take Giulia?
No experience with RWD cars? |

Well I picked up the Alfa news in Rockingham thread and assumed the RWD Giulia saloon.
Then I saw the cars nose on btcc.net (before looking at captions) and thought Austin. Back in RWD! Genuinely surprised they've gone with the aged Giulietta (I first drove a prototype in 2009!) but as Dynamics/ Honda have proven time and time again a well engineered short wheelbase FWD hatch can be a very successful recipe. Good luck to Rob and the boys at Handy. Seems I am switching my allegiances in BTCC! |

Length probably isn't the reason. The Giulia is BMW 3 series size - a wee bit shorter than the Subaru Levorg and the Toyota Avensis.

This was the deal that I'd heard about last year, of course, but the numbers just couldn't work then, apparently. So pleased it is on track now - we (the UK Alfa Romeo Owners Club) will be supporting this venture with great enthusiasm |

I just saw that Alfa need to use 2-litre engine
''The choice of engine has to be 2-litre, and from the brand's 'family''' Giulietta only have 1.75 as it's most powerful engine, and 2.0 from Giulia and Stelvio is mounted longitudinal. Will the BTCC let them use 1.75 engine like TCR Alfa or they will manage to squeeze 2.0 by that chassis regulations (bright ideas as A4 RWD)? |

Should be able to use something else from the FIAT family if it suits. The Welch guys were using an Mitsubishi Evo derived engine in the Proton under that rule!
Odds on it'll be the TOCA engine to start with. |

Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Ram Trucks and SRT. So they have the 2.0L Dodge Avenger/Chrysler Sebring as an example. The list of options is limited though as most of their American engines are too big, and most of their European ones are too small. |

I wouldn't waste your head space figuring out what engine it will be. The money from the dealers won't be enough for an engine development project. Rob Austin's already been stung with that before trying and failing to develop an Audi S3 based engine for the A4.
It'll be a TOCA engine..... they already have one to use from the Toyota |
