A 458 ran in SP8 a couple years back and was faster than everything. I think it had an issue or it couldnt do as many laps per stint. Hankook 458 I think it was. IMO that was the best looking 458 ever.

The Hankook 458 was the fastest car in the 2011 N24, but spent a long time in the pits with suspension damage a few hours into the race. It was a modified GT2 car if I remember correctly.

Can anyone explain RCN to me!!
I was at the ring over the weekend and there was everything from an R8 V10 blasting round to a few guys in Polo's wobbling round! ANd when we left all the quick stuff had left the track and there was only slow stuff left! And befoire that there was some sort of fuel type run or something, cars with cages in and blokes with helmets, but mainly road going? I understand VLN! But this was well odd!! |

Yea i did some digging. It was the farnbacher car, it entered in the Le Mans race as well but the car was different for the 'ring.

in the SP8 racing only a few cars with laptimes almost over 9 minutes. only the F458 and the L-FA are quicker. it sounds unusual, but at the 24h and the VLN the SP7 ist stronger than the SP8. http://www.r-c-n.com/ the "rundstrecken-challenge" racing only on the nordschleife without the GP-circuit. after 3 laps of reguarity test they race cars almost a bit older the the VLN-cars, but younger than the youngtimer without battle for position on track, because of a point-system. |

The hankook farnbacher was simply a 458 GT2 with a better diffuser. The work m3 was different by the one used in ILMC because had trans-axle gear box, special suspensions and engine placed in a different way, was a sort of GT DTMesque so ran in xp1 instead of SP7.
SP8 class in my opinion is too much confusing, you can't group togheter a lot of different cars judging only by the engine size without consider other factors. 458 GT2, corvette GT4, a modified street lexus LFA, street modified vantage v12 all in the same class with huge performance differences. |

They were very much the same design. The M3 had shed loads of waivers in ACO rules racing and had to run in the invitational class of the VLN/N24.

I know that BMW introduced the M3 GT for 2009 ALMS season, entering the car in GT2S specs (what does exactly mean GT2S I don't know, maybe S is for SEDAN being the M3 derivated from 4 doors BMW series 3) with all the DTMesque waivers of the post above. To enter in ACO LM and ILMC, during 2010 BMW was forced to modify the car to be homologated as a true GT2/GTE. This car was also nicknamed "Schnitzer Spec". M3 GT in full ACO specs was used in 2010 and 2011 Le Mans and ILMC by Schnitzer BMW official-work team and from 2011 to 2012 by BMW RLL team in ALMS. The GT2S specs M3 GT was also used by the work team in VLN and 24H of nurburgring from 2009 to 2011 and for the 2010 24H of spa in GTN class.

If the "street modified LFA" is getting under 8:40 I wonder what the race car will do. I know theres big differences between the LFA and the current one racing, but nothing like that GTE model we saw.

My candidates for the win are:
o- #1 Audi Phoenix (Basseng / Fässler / Stippler / Winkelhock) o- #29 Audi WRT (Van Thoor / Sandstorm / Mies / Haase) o- #50 Porsche Manthey (Bergmeister / Lietz / Holzer / Tandy) o- #18 Porsche Manthey (Lieb / Dumas / Luhr / Bernhard) My additional candidates for the podium are: o- #2 Audi Mamerow (Jarvis / Rast / Abt / Mamerow) o- #7 Aston Martin (Turner / Mücke / Lamy / Simonsen) o- #9 Mercedes Black Falcon (Bleekemolen / Edwards / Schneider / Thiim) o- #11 Porsche (Pilet / Huisman / Schmitz / Abbelen) o- #44 Porsche Falken (Henzler / Ragginer / Asch / Dumbreck) We'll have to see which drivers fill the #19 and #20 BMW Schubert and the #26 BMW VDS. |

i suppose it will be the battle between audi, bmw, mercedes and porsche.
for the overall victory i think #1 phoenix-audi #9 black falcon-mercedes #18 manthey-porsche #19 schubert-bmw #20 schubert-bmw #50 manthey-porsche in the rain of course the falken-porsche ;-) with less maximum speed but good handling and speed-up the Z4 should be good at the nordschleife. with 34 GT3, the F458, the L-FA, the McLaren and 16 cup-porsche it should be a tight race. in last year there were in the early morning hours still nearby ten cars in the leading-lap. we see who's left in the finish. i will be in the klostertalkurve this year! can't wait for the night oft the nights! https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n..._8269639_n.jpg pyro in my bags! ;-) |

2nd VLN race stream has just gone live - the weather is foul (and so is the music)

That can't race in that surely. Not sure how the field were even allowed to get rolling.
Are the organisers feeling the pressure a bit with so little track time this year? |

Cant say Im surprised to hear about the foul weather or the foul music for that matter (what is it with Germans and really bad music?), seems to be the theme for VLN this year, hope it stays off for the 24hr.
