The trick is to record it and then start watching about 15/20 minutes in to the start of the broadcast, that way you can FF through the adverts and the "How To Fecking Watch" bits and you'll have caught up to being "live" around Martys Grid-Walk.

When skipping through I did notice a hell of a alot of Americanized graphics which I don't think the coverage needs. Might be a way of trying to modernise its appearance and to look more like their football coverage, but its not for me. I did stop fast forwarding when the driver stats came up and they had these cringe worthy shots of the drivers staring straight at a camera, some smiling, some looking confused which although naff, it was rather amusing. I don't think the BBC have ever been as good as that!! Maybe they could drop one of EJ's segments and introduce these NFL style stare cams?? lol.

It's the same with the footballers and Rugby players that Sky do this with. Some take it very seriously, others you can tell that they are getting the micky taken by team mates.
If you actually watch the NFL when the players do it, some of them take it very seriously with their full name and full Name of their college, whilst others will say their Colleges nickname. |

Martin Whitmarsh belives the pay per view deal for F1 has been positive.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/102005 While viewing numbers have been overall much the same as last year, with a second broadcaster they should in theory be growing? Pay per view is likely to have an effect on the number of casual viewers in the longer term because of less visibility. |

Wait until it goes totally PPV. Then I think you may see a change of mind from team owners as F1 would become a totally niche sport in this country. |

Anyhoo... PPV will almost certainly cause some of these newbies to lose interest pretty sharpish. They "love" it until something else comes along. |

Also if newbies aren't given the chance to slowly get interested through exposure to the sport, what makes you think they will invest just to try it? Your opinion is flawed in many respects. |

The cars are great - the peak of engineering and creativity, it's just a pity that the knowledge available today means they've all come up with the same answer. The drivers are great - we're going through a phase at the moment where we have several drivers at their peak who would have stood out in any era. But I really loathe, I mean really detest, the way the sport is so homogenised, so generic, with hosting countries who have no real love for it, and fans/organisers being ripped off by faceless bankers, in it for the profits. I'm fully aware that the changes were inevitable, as big money was required to fulfil Bernie and CVC's dream of expansion and worldwide popularity. Sorry for this OT rant. I'm a member of the Nostalgia Forum at the Autosport site - your dad would like that, highly recommended. You should hear what THEY have to say about modern F1, it makes me sound non-judgemental. Places like Bahrain, Malaysia etc are called "playmat" circuits. It's GP-lite as far as they're concerned. If Sky continue to braodcast the races as part of a regular schedule, no probs. If they make it PPV per race, they can forget it. I'm off. |

Surely they won't be that daft. It didn't work first time round so what makes them think it's going to be any more successful now.

When both are live, I pluck for the BBC. Why? Two words: Anderson's notebook.

Am I the only one who choose BBC before Sky because I think Edwards/Coulthard are better than Croft/Brundle?
However, Edwards and Brundle would have been such an epic pair! |

I do think the Croft-Brundle duet is more 'formal' whereas DC and Edwards has more 'warmth'. I prefer the latter but there's not a huge gulf between them , IMO

Monza is a SKY only live weekend which means we're forced to listen to Croft and Davidson prattle on infuriatingly during free practice. For example:
During FP2 the camera pans into the Force India garage where Conor Daly smiles at the camera before panning back out again. "That blokes happy" comments Croft. Wonder what he's doing there in a Lotus shirt....." Davidson gurgles inanely...... 10 mins later "Oh I'ved just remembered that bloke's face. It was Conor Daly. Still don't know what he was doing in the Force India garage...." Davidson gurgles and adds that at least he's in a garage at a grand prix lucky chap or something similarly inane. I find it infuriating that we have to PAY to watch this sort of amateur hour rubbish. They are being paid to know that Conor has done two straight line tests for Force India. Thank God the BBC will be back for the next one. Listening to these two is damaging my health. |

That's what happens when you attempt to run a 24-hr channel for a limited number of events. Mind-numbing boredom whilst you wait for the real thing.
That's why I only watch Q3 and the race. How long before Sky reduce the channel to 6 hours a day? |

Ben Edwards is just a really quality commentator. Can't fault the man. He should have been given the F1 gig years ago (perhaps he was offered - I don't know).
