Scrap the Tolkien, and read a few books on motor sport, not modern rubbish, Hamiton, Button etc. they are all corporate speak.

Look out for 'Touch Wood' by Duncan Hamilton, Challenge Me The Race, Mike Hawthorrn, 'Only Here for the Beer', Gerry Marshall.

There are a lot of good books that will lift your spirits, and educate you on the roots of motor racing, and I am sure others will add to my suggestions.

And MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL keep posting here, there is no better tonic for overcoming the blues. You only need to look at some of VivaGT's efforts to realise there are people worse of then you.

Imagine having to work and slave in Mrs. GT's bakery all day, knocking out hundreds of pies, and flans.

I had depression once. I got hit with a ballpane hammer.

Finally' Keep taking the tablets.

I know its easy for me to say but it comes out in spells.Sometimes I'm fine, you wouldnt know a thing, sometimes its clear as day.Its more what I say than how I look.

I'll keep with Tolkien.I find it very good, dare I say happy.😁.I read mostly war history books but I'll give it a try.
I read atm Motor Sport Mag which is good.I go straight to the Cars for Sale bit although I do read it all.

Although when i got to the table and saw it I said oh i'm sorry did I say toast? What I actually meant was I want a divorce. You've ruined my life you horrible cow!

Dear Richard,
As you know I specialise in advising men who suffer at the hands of their other half. In most cases I can find a solution to their problem, however, now and again I come across a case such as yours.

Unfortunately you appear to be a Chauvinistic Pig, and misogynist. My advice is to seek counselling, and or become a Social Worker. Alternatively you could try posting on the F1 forum. That should cure you of any apathy towards Mrs Cranium, as there will be much to replace it, amongst the posters there.

Turn to your feminine side, think of mountain steams burbling gently down a grassy hillside, bunnies frolicking in the meadow, Andy Murray retiring (in tears)

Oh! Dear .. I must go and lie down for a while ……

Uncle Bob.

You see Will, although we appear to be curmudgeonly old gits on here, deep down we are all softies with true hearts of gold.
I do agree with most of the advice posted on here (I think it's obvious which 'personal' comments I take issue with!) as sadly I have a close family member who suffers with clinical depression.
Yes, ditch the 'out of this world' fantasy reading, older motor-racing related books would be interesting to you, so you'd absorb yourself into them. Sport & exercise is good because it (apparently) releases endorphins (a feel-good hormone) ,into your blood, and although I've never been a marshal myself I'd agree that would be a great way for you to get a closer involvement with motor-sport, something which you obviously love.
You're on the first steps to recovery now as you've realised that things aren't right, you've spoken out about it and I'm sure will start acting on some of the advice you've been given (until you accept you have a 'problem' you will never start to face up to it & deal with it).
Certainly do keep posting on here, as the last few pages have proven, there's good support within this community, just be careful not to take too much notice of what that trouble-maker from Luton says!

Be careful what you wish for, the VSCC Pomeroy Trophy takes place at Silverstone on Feb 16th. Bound to be cold, windy, and a lot of fun. Maybe see you there?

Since when has the Classic been held on 31st March? I think you'll find it's around 180 days.

'next' season has started for me - managed to watch most of the Dubai 24 Hours last weekend. At one point the top 3 were all different manufacturers and all still on the lead lap, good racing. Audi came through though, no fairytale ending this year.

I can't recall all the details of the tricks used on Robby Badass monster, guess it was something like using the air coming out from a spare wheel as a compressor. Clever!

When I worked for Ralliart Europe on the WRC side, they also ran Pajeros in Rally raids built by a French sub contractor. We went to their place to collect something once, and the quality of their work was superb. Us mechanics christened the cars ‘Desert Bouncers’ as that’s how they were always depicted- bouncing across sand....

The Motorsport feature also mentions a 2CV with twin Visa engines, a Toyota pick up Frites wagon (that cooked in the evenings after each stage!) and a Jag XJ6 body perched on a Range Rover chassis. All very cool!

May be a pair of brothers located in Pont de Vaux, Donkervoort importers? I think the title of luckiest man in the Dakar can be awarded to a Finnish french politician with no doubt. Imagine your car being kid-naped right in the middle of nowhere by some terrorist. You pay the ransom. Because those people are really nice, you can have your car back with a new engine, a filled tank and a clean windscreen… One year later, you trade a 10 Belgian Francs coin to a 10 French Francs and… win!
One lion, sent later in a North Carolina zoo, was interviewed. The big cat said: "Hard to swallow, jish chtowy!"
