For some reason I always end up on 36 regardless of how many I originally volunteered for. Last year, ticked 42, did 36. Previous year, ticked 29, did 36. No idea how that happens.

Not ticked off as many this year due to work shift patterns.
Some I have volunteered for I can't do and some I haven't volunteered for, I find at a late stage that I am available!!

I'm also going through the "I really can't be bothered" stage again with my Marshalling - and have sent apologies a couple of times already this season because it all just seems to much bother!
I need therapy!

Alan Green should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
40's a decent average, used to top 50 in my first few seasons, and struggled to get the 15 for the grand prix form at worst.

As long as you're enjoying it do as many as you can manage / afford / tolerate. If you're getting bored with the same week-in-week-out duty ask for something different, like startline or pitlane, or see Deadsquirrels recent post looking for oval safety teams at the Rock'. How many meetings you do is just numbers at the end of the day.

Yeah I'm down for about 40 or so days this year, as I have most years I've been marshalling.

Lee, I don't know your age, but personally as I get older I get more selective on the meetings I'll do. In my first few years at Brands Hatch, I'd do every meeting there they held, and a few others at Lydden etc, so up to 50/60 days a year?!

Looks like only 25 this year (6*2 days for SCSA, 3 each for LMS, DTM, WTCC & GP (why?) and 1 day for the Peterbourgh Motor Club!! )

I'm not going down the route of "the racing isn't as interesting as it was in my day....etc" as that would only hi-jack your thread!

What constitutes normal?

I'm down for 35 days this year, although I said I was going to cut back.

I'm still in the "newbie" phase so trying to do as many as possible, and rope in friends \ family etc!

It will fade given enough early starts!

I do about 35 days, I have also tried to cut back this season but seem to be doing about the same as last season. I guess "normal" is whatever you can do. I'm lucky that I have a Monday-Friday 9-5 job so I know that my weekends are free. But I am a little more selective than I used to be, 5 years in and there are championships I avoid!!

That's 'spooky'!!! That's exactly the same I did over the last two years too.

Seems, from this slightly unrepresentative survey, that we all spend about the same number of days or is it like a sex survey where everybody exagerates?

30 days this year on the rescue unit, add to that another 6 or 7 days for Kirkistown, another 3 for Brands FF Festival and probably another 6 for other UK events (if we can decide what to do) and it seems I have NO LIFE!

I would expect to do somewhere between 15 - 20 days a year. However that may well increase as the family allow me out in public more often these days!

As Comps. Sec. for BMMC-SE region, I receive the "green slip" insurance forms. For 2006 I have received forms from 75 members (out of 175-ish) for 2200 marshalling days, you can work the average out yourself.

The range varies from 5 to over 60 days, and is split 42% Brands Hatch, 29% Snetterton, 5% Lydden and 24% others (Silverstone, Rockingham, etc plus sprints and hillclimbs)

Don't forget, if I do n ot have a "green slip" you are not covered by BMMC insurance!

How many of us are now more selective? I have to work many days at weekends (Gordon Brown's Pension does not support me!), but I find I have to attach a criteria to the Meetings I can cover.
1. Excellent run and supported meetings (MGCC)
2. Clubs I am a Member of (o'k - MGCC!0
3. Personalities - if you know the other people going,
and/or pleas from colleagues/friends - can you
help??
4. Distance! I drive about over 40,000 miles per
year, so do not want long distances to Race
Meetings - so, thats Brands Hatch mostly!

Last year I did 70 days, ranging from MSA Steward, Clerk of the Course to Observer & I.O. No wonder I'm single!
Mind you, this year Elaine & I, will be doing a similar number, including the British G.P. the day before our Weding & the Nurburgring the week after.

Paul Newns should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Every year I say I'm not doing as many, and every year I still do in the region of 50 days. I wouldn't say I'm normal, I'd say I was certifiable!

My other half is very understanding but we have a difference of opinion on the number of days I do. I only count days on the bank, she includes travelling days, too. That's because some celt opened his mouth after having a few whiskies at Christmas! She hadn't worked that one out for years before then.

Bill & I have moved into the "selective" stage but counting up on the calendar that is still approx 34 days each (not including Formula Student) - so maybe not as selective as we think OR too much to select???????
