Well done folks, glad you all completed the event safely especially considering the weather!

Was up there helping friends racing, looked a nice mixed grid of Escorts. Big shame about the weather.
When i talked to guys back in april/may about this 50th escort doo, it was going to be htp/fia cars only ? Just as well the allsorts escort boys boulstered the grid due to lack of fia stuff. Static display stuff was top shelf material. Well done to HSCC for running the meeting in such wet conditions. |

There sure was a wide disparity in car specification but it made for an entertaining couple of races. Just about dried out now! Thanks to all for the pretty unique spectacle. Next stop Castle Combe for the classic!

I think it was inevitable that the grid would have to be opened to more than just Gp1/2/5 stuff. Not a big deal to me as they were all Escorts, just some were more period than others.....
I viewed the day as a chance to support the HSCC and be involved in a one off occasion. Of course there were going to be those out for glory, but all that was of little interest to me. (Not that I would have been competitive with the front runners anyway ) Most important was returning home with in undamaged car. It may be only a blue oval product, but the repair costs are same as any other race car.... |

Hopefully the "allsorts Escorts" will come out to play in the CSCC Special Saloons and Modsports series occasionally. A good place for them, I would have thought. One or two play already, but always good to have more, and only 4/5 meetings a year.

One or two looked appropriate but probably the ones that are already racing with CSCC!

Thanks Cliff. And look- almost dry! The only wet of any consequence left was as you entered the pit straight from Clarke Curve, where it had been running across earlier. One or two got a tank slapper on! The trick seemed to be, to unload the steering as you went through the wet bit.....

Seems the races have provoked interest from the odd circuit owner and organiser, so could possibly be another opportunity for an Escort get together next year.... |

Well for many years the MG Car Club MGBCV8 Championship was welcomed by many circuits. Why not a mixed Escort grid?

I think it would have to be a stand alone event. When the HSCC originally mentioned yesterday’s meeting Mk3 Escorts were also being considered, and I don’t see why they couldn’t be included- if any were prepared to enter.

I did enjoy my race enormously . I would only race again if there was a grid of Mexico ‘s and genuine Group 1 cars . Have to wait and see but yes it was fantastic to be part of this anaversery for sure .

Early escorts with proper Kent engines must be thin on the ground now. Survival of 1300gt's is probably up there with Cortina gt's!

Now, stand alone Escort rally classes is another thing. As long as you don't encourage Millington/ Vauxhall/ Duratec / Honda VTEC engined, and sequential gearbox equipped, "Escort" facsimiles to compete!!! |

IMO As long as there are clearly defined classes, the more modern iterations could race with the period cars- in maybe a Ford specific race meeting? |

I had a mk1 escort. I was thinking about building it for racing but I couldn't find a race series with enough similar cars to race with. So I sold it last year as a rolling shell and bought a dyno instead!

My reference to the BCV8 championship was more because of the various classes of modification. You have the roadgoing through to fully modified V8s.
In the case of the Mk1 and 2 Escorts there are; Group 1; Group 2; and, Group 5 versions all of which could share a grid. The Blue Oval championship covers all Fords not just Escorts. |

Rallying is either "WRC"; "truly historic", (with cars to the proper homologation papers), which is great, or "Libre" where anything seems to go. In the case of the latter, I don't think that rallying will ever move on whilst lightweight "special saloons" dominate. There is no real rallying equivalent to "classic club racing" age related class structures whether in its "70s Roadsports", CTCRC, or CSCC "Swinging Sixties"/"Future Classics"/ "Modern Classic" type incarnations and that, I think, is a real shame, and a real weakness.
