I did one for my final year project. Its title was "The design and simulation of a F1 gearbox". Basically it was to design a software application that would take a torque curve, a speed analysis graph and some other info and the end result would output the best number of gears (5 - 7) and the best gear ratios to use for a particular track. I got info from the transmissions dept at Tyrell (a guy called Gary Thomas). He was the only person from all the F1 teams to send a helpful reply.

Do you really want to do a project on F1? Could it be another class? What is your particular area of specialisation? Would you fancy doing an aero project for a lower formula car? If yes, I'd be interested in helping as much as possible.

What about the Formula Student in England project in England? I did Formula SAE for 3 years in Calgary, and was by far the best thing I did in Univ.

What is your Degree? Where are you studying?

Have you tried approaching small grass roots teams and asking them if there is anything that they would like to try.

You may find for example that someone wants to stress analyse there car and your university has the equipment. What you could do then is analyse what is currently happening with their car and design them a new chassis using FEA.

That is purely an example there are endless possibilities.

Let me know what you decide to do.

Seems like m_williams99 was just passing through, but if not:

As Flatjack pointed out, try a smaller team/constructor. I am willing to help here...
