THRUXTON HISTORIC
The two races for the Jochen Rindt Trophy were the undoubted highlights of the Thruxton Historic meeting 2022. A large and varied grid took part with close battles throughout the field, featuring a very close battle for the lead between Rob Wainwright in his ex Ronnie Peterson Formula Two March and Benn Tilley in Simon Hadfield's Formula Atlantic Modus.

Behind the leaders the remainder of the field also provided some great racing.

THRUXTON HISTORIC
Sadly only ten cars appeared for the Historic Touring Car Challenge race. The Nissan Skylines, quick and spectacular, appear to have scared away a lot of the opposition. Even one of the RS500 drivers felt that they should be in a different class to the Skylines. It also didn't help that the Group 1/1.5 cars were distracted by the first HRDC Gerry Marshall Trophy race the following weekend which attracted nearly thirty starters. Nevertheless there was a great battle for the lead between the Skylines of Ric Wood and Andy Middlehurst/Jonathan Bailey which went the way of Wood.

THRUXTON HISTORIC
The HTCC grid may have been small but the cars looked great and put on a fine display.

I spoke to a number of owners, all were enthusiastic about their cars. Uup the 77 is a trials car based in a Riley RM. There was also a Ferrari Enzo. I didn't photograph it because I didn't want to break the camera. Possibly the ugliest car I've ever seen in the flesh. Downright horrible.

Thanks for the pics, Peter. The Esprit was really well inspired a true timeless style.

Here's something for plane fans. MinMM works at Dyson and they had their party at their airfield yesterday. The star for me was this Spitfire which we were able to browse around. When they fired it up we were alongside the runway. Once it had taken off it gave a breathtaking display, brushing the runway barely above 30 feet then looping the loop and rolling like it wasn't an octogenarian. Sorry that the looping plane is so small, it was a very sunny day and difficult to see my phone screen. I've a video which I'll upload somewhere and link to.

You have excelled today Mr Bauble.... something to please all tastes from Aquila, Alta, Pacey Hassan and Napier Bentleys , Bugattis, Cooper, GN, Lister, Metros Morgans MG's (Triple M), Riley, SCAT, Talbot Lago, Viper and many many more. A veritable Alphabet of Motor Racing.
Very impressive selection. Has improved my wet windy wintery weather affected day. (as I jealously read that you lot up there are basking in sunshine and warmth) Last edited by E.B; 12 Jul 2022 at 04:00. Reason: Added warm weather jealousy |

Lovely photos Baub, plenty of variety. The Cooper I love the look of, even though they are all great looking cars. Thanks for these, glad you could brighten up our days

Very varied selection, there, Peter. Loved the Alfa, of course.....and thought the juxtaposition of the Austin 7 and the Rover Sterling fascinating. Both family four seaters for the reasonably well off of their day |
