2 seconds faster for the LMP2s. PR1 were half a second off the 2018 LMP2 fastest time, so maybe about 2.5 seconds.
How did the weather stack up for both years?

Don't know if DPi got aero updates during the winter, they got some extra power for sure, but michelin contribution is more than 3 seconds if pole will be in 1.32

I don't know what the weather was last year, but the weather this Roar was about perfect for fast laps.

2 seconds improvement is really good for the P2's given they have less power this year.

One thing that Bourdais said when talking to Marshall Pruett on camera during the night sessions was - last year, GTLM running on Michelin and everyone else running on Contis meant the track wasn't really getting rubbered in and the only influence on speeds were actual weather conditions, the track itself wasn't evolving; now that everyone is on the same tires, they are noticing proper track evolution and the racing line getting faster.

Finally! The continental tires were decent for what they were but they are not in the same league as Michelin. It's about time imsa got all the classes on actual good rubber so they can get on with finding time in the track like most other series.

It was pretty similar. It may have been a little cooler last year but not much

Another piece of data is the Mazda. Recall in 2014, their pace was 1 min 49.7. They have improved by 16 seconds a lap from when they debuted to today.

well.... useless to say that when you're the slowest one, you just can get better, but need to remind that in 2014, mazda used 2 modified lola b12/80 (by far the worst available lmp2 chassi) powered by a silly diesel engine that barely had 400hp...

Mazda improved a lot from last 2 seasons where they had a crap aero/chassis with less downforce than anyone else and much more drag because of that lmp3style designed windscreen. Not to mention AER reliability issues.

This year, it seems mazda, multimatic and joest guys found a way to finally improve aero efficiency of the car; it developes more downforce for sure and despite that windscreen marked 195mph. Surely -30kg, extra boost and revlimit set to 9300rpm helped a lot. Now just need to see if AER did finally their homework

I don't think we can compare that Mazda to this Mazda DPi...plus at the 2014 Roar that Mazda ran a 1:39.828

lol seriously was that fast?
I recall 2014 pole was 1.38.2 while both mazdas had terrible performances because of a serious lack of power (at that time, riley ford and corvette dp were in the 560hp range, lmp2 and riley bmw 500-520hp).

it doesn't let me download the file, but nevermind I trust you; it's just I recalled 2014 mazdas several seconds off the pace. Hope to don't be wrong but fastest dp marked pole in 1.38.2, "fastest" mazda in 1.49....
