One suggestion I've read was that it was a token single-car effort as the championship was already pretty much lost to Francevic and Volvo- Fury needed to win with Francevic out of the points for Nissan to take the title.

Apparently they did have had two cars at Oran, but the second was there simply as a spare- Fury drove both in practice, then opted for his regular car for the race
