Will have to ask my old man if I was there in '97. The cars ring a bell, but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me from what I watched on the TV.
The rain was biblical.

Sorry for taking this away from the videos and on to the sound, but to clarify my comment - there was something about the pitch that I just couldn't take. Previous era versions and others since (and indeed the 911GT1 & Evo versions of the same time) were fine.

As for a 4 year old G4J running away from a Panoz - was that because of the noise or the looks of the car? Those big rumbling US engines (including the Saleens, Vipers, etc) were music to my (30+ year old) ears.

Perhaps sound/volume/pitch preference is an age thing?

I think it was age, I was nine and it made my ears hurt, I loved the thing, but couldn't stand near the track when it passed without ear defenders.

I always love these (GT) POV onboards:

Onboard with Richard Abra, testing at Snetterton:

Would like a copy of this, but 100 dollar is a bit above my budget and not something I'd like to pay on which ever recording:

But luckily someone has posted it on youtube:

just click on the following parts when part 1 of 14 has finished.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but maybe worth a repost:
British GT from Silverstone 1998.

Great mix of cars and an exciting finish.

Really shows the (only) downside of the current GT3 boom as well: The big factories rule the roost and the oddballs - like the Lister, Marcos and Harrier, etc. were back then - are almost shut out.

It is still difficult to believe how small the driver's forward vision area is in the R18.

It's just as bad in the Toyota and most of the other closed LMP1 cars because of ACO/FIA crash standards being a lot more strict than in the Group C/IMSA GTP days. Even the Bentley Speed 8 family had thick A-pillars, though the Bentley's greenhouse was much wider than a modern LMP1.

For my offering, I'd say that the Audi Sport highlights videos do have some of the best slow motion footage that I've seen.

Le Mans' website had this video on it. Not exactly 'cool', but it's pretty funny.

The first one predates me, as well and my knowledge of video games is limited to being able to recognize Super Mario Bros. and Pac-Man, so I didn't know about either of the games in the videos.

Second one definitely looks a lot more like Le Mans than the first.
