Rally in Wales and the Police
Interviewed , Thursday morning 6 th Nov on TV a Police inspector on the spot told viewers last year they successfully prosecuted 20 of the top international rally drivers for speeding between stages and more that 2000 members of the public.
He regarded this as a satisfactory start and this year they had doubled the number of hidden mobile speed trap detector vans and officers out in the remote areas to catch as many people as they could and return with a much improved haul of fines, although he said the money was not important to them ! You will remember the Government changed the rules on the use of fine receipts so that Police could keep a proportion of the money they gathered. for their own use in buying new equipment for Police stations etc. It would be interesting to hear experiences from people who have just returned from spectating in Wales. |

So-called 'safety' cameras are fine. If they're displayed and you get caught you've only yourself to blame. However, the smug manner in which they wait 360 odd days a year for this event and, doubtless, tuck themselves out of sight. They really do know how to lose people's respect ...

As much as I am against "safety Cameras", for something like the rally GB I welcome them, too many times have i been travelling between stages only to have a prat in a scooby or mitsi and even micra think they are a top driver and traffic at top speed.
Last year the police were actively telling all people going to the rally that there would be cameras out, there were noticies in the program/Autosport/MN and they wern't hidden they were all in plain view, so if you got caught being said prat, tough! Said driving activities have now put me off going to rallies. Last edited by Muttley; 9 Nov 2003 at 19:11. |
