Not major enough, it would seem from earlier announcements.
Compared with all Dasher's achievements, it pales, surely. Kramer |

"Leanne Tander has become the first woman to win an Australian national circuit racing title after claiming the Formula Ford Series crown at Phillip Island." The OP doesnt mention disqualification due to CAMS wanting to strengthen F4 |

It's a national title. To think anything else would show a complete lack of knowledge of Australian motorsport. Well done Leanne and team.

It had over twice as many competitors as CAMS' F4 championship ;-). Not to mention Will Brown (the F4 champion) was the runner-up, arguably he could have won had the opening rounds of each series not clashed.

If you win the series are you not the champion? I would call it a small-c championship even if not an official capital-c Championship.

Anyway its all a bit of target and not meant to be a discusion between formula Ford and Formula 4 Well done to Leanne. However Dashers question still stands and Leanne has probably shown one of the reasons we havent had a female champion in the top classes. Having a baby takes many promising female competors out of the running. there is an article in todays papers Gender gap continues to grow in kids sport as females participate at half the rate of males which suggest that by the teen years Girls participate at half the rate of Boys and in motorsport that is even less Last edited by peckstar; 28 Nov 2016 at 01:53. |

Female competitors in motorsport seem to be on the up, however.

We should be seeing that happen in our national entry level series, but are we? For instance how many 17-24 yo females was Leanne racing against? how many were formula 4. Looking at Karts there appears to be typical one female in each junior category, but very few, if any, once they get past junior categories |

Caitlin Wood ran F4 last year, before going off to Europe to race in GT4 this year. She won her 'class', and has moved onto a factory Reiter GT3 gig for next season in Blancpain.
Bec Connell is doing F4 next year, from memory. Is currently in karts. I think there's one other, that's possibly moving into KV8s next year. Ms Duggan may end up there as well. Still plenty of girls in Speedway. Junior sedans (up to 17y/o) is usually around 50/50 male-female. They tend to drop off after that. Probably see 1-2 females per division at most shows, with the typical 5-6 divisions running. Bike racing, be it on tar, or dirt, is much the same. Not flattering numbers, but certainly not considered an unusual thing to see. If you went back 10-15 years ago, you'd be lucky to see 1 female competing at all, at any race meeting. |

Other than Leanne's gender, I do still think if Tim Blanchard took 10 years away from racing and won FFord at 35 it would still be news.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't make anything up. I merely copied from the various social media screenshots posted by all and sundry in this very thread. Please don't cast aspersions when they are unwarranted.
