courage should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
photos?????

I'm working on a "TPE" (something we must do at school.......) about aerodynamism, and I'd like to know if some of you have COLOUR photos of the first cars with rear wings (espacially the Chaparrals), of the chaparral 2J (sucker car) and of the Lotus F1 witch had a full wing form(the valvoline one)
Thank you

You also should be able to do a web search with key word combos like Can-Am, Chapparal, and Jim Hall and run across images as well...

I've seen sites with lots of Can-Am car pics from the 1960s and early 1970s...

For the Tall-Winged Chaparral (2E), go to this site:

www.mlodeent.com/CANAM/jhall.htm

It had two decent pics of that car and some good descriptive copy to accompany it...

that 2J suction car is awesome Didn't Jackie Stewart drive is once?
I read somewhere it had to built like a tank becuase i generated so much grip and was in danger of tearing itself apart at high speed corners

The Chapparal's wing could be moved (tilted) by the driver based on where he was on the course...flatter on straights, tilted to give downforce for corners, etc....

Jim Hall...an amazing and innovative guy who never stopped thinking of something new to get an edge....

basically the rear wing on the chaparells could be altered by the driver with a third pedal...there was no clutch because it had a semi auto gearbox so the third pedal was used for that

1956, Michal May, Porsche 550. Hall always gets the credit, but May was first and in fact his wing also was moveable. Interestingly enough, May's wing had endplates, something that Hall didn't have on the Chaps.

Some endplates were fitted to the Chaparrals, not large but small. The 2H had BIG end plates.
The wing fitted to Mays Porsche, had to be removed after Huscke von Hanstein of Porsche got the organisers to get it removed. I think it came under the heading 'NIH'(not invented here) eg Porsche. The difference between the Chaparral wing and the May wing, Halls was operated on the run by the drivers.
BTW Chaparral is spelt Chaparral.
