If Taz Douglas get sick of crashing cars, and running last, I've got an upcoming vacancy for a HSEQ systems admin person !
$50 - 60 K package (depending on experience & quals) |

To be fair on Mr Douglas, he hasn't done too bad in his first year in the main game. Just look at the guys aroud him on the points ladder.
Although, given the equipment he's in, and the cheat sheets (Re: setup notes) it came with, he should be faring a bit better. |

So I little more or a little less than $1 million for the top few drivers would have to be close to the mark. |

The only times salaries have been confirmed is when details of Lowndes' contract with Ford were disclosed in the Fred Gibson & Noel Watson vs Bob Forbes case and Jason Richards' in his case against Team Dynamik.

Meanwhile Ambrose is listed at almost 3.5 million USD so far this year for his 24 starts, just in prize money alone.

Aah, yes, noted, and agreed. I had taken a quick glance at the nascar site. Regardless, whilst Murphs 400k would be a dream to us mere mortals, I'd reckon Ambrose must be laughing all the way to the bank now.

Pretty sure it was never about the money for Ambrose, no doubt a nice bonus but he wants to win on ovals more than anything. |

There is prize money outside of the REC payments like in any other category. Mind you I havent heard of any figures bandied around, would like to know how it compares to say NASCAR for example. The thing with NASCAR is that the TV rights command a much higher premium and there's more mainstream sponsors onboard so prize money can be much much higher.

Wondering how long that has been the case for. Always thought there was prize money (apart from the pole money) but it wasnt anything substantial but something neverless. |

Do they still mention a prize pool in the annual pre-Bathurst publication?
Only asking because the last one I bought was back in 1999! |

One thing I know, some of these boys will be on a base salary+performance+merchandise cut+prize money after+car. Not to mention any personal deals or extra jobs they do thru the year.

When Skaife was driving for HRT, he got four locations on his race suit to sell to personal sponsors. They went for over AUS$100K each. If his driver salary was only AUS$500K, and his other personal deals were only AUS$100K, then his income would still be north of AUS$1 million per year.
