With Sebring coming up soon, I thought this would be of interest. Back in 1965 my brother and I went to the New York Auto Show and they had this newsreel playing in one of the side rooms showing the 1965 Sebring 12 hours. It showed Jim Hall's Chaparral basically kicking the crap out of the best Ferrari and Ford had to offer. The film is split into 5 parts so here are the links:

The engine sounds are recorded pretty well and the Chaparral sounds great. In 1965 Hall had two real shots at the international competition. He also kicked their butts at the 500 miler at Bridgehampton, Long Island that year. The Bridgehampton race was part of the World Sportscar Championship that year. My brother actually took me to see that one live before he headed into the Army the next year. Anyway, as a bonus, here is some footage of the 500 miler that I found on Youtube.

Vintage stuff here. The last race for the Chaparral 2F, winning the BOAC 500 at Brands Hatch in 1967. Too bad the Chaparral had such bad luck that year. the car was always one of the fastest at each track setting many poles and many fastest laps but just not pulling through in the end. Probably not the coolest video ever but is this a first glipse of the V6 Turbo HPD? (second car in the shot, is Strakka I believe)

Mmmmmmm, I like the noise the HPD Turbo engine makes, definetely sounds like a 935, 993 GT2-R. My gripe with that Imola test video is how the V8 Vantage sounds, where has our growling, bellowing V8 gone? it sounds like a louder M3 GT2 now

I was hoping the HPD V6 would rev higher and sound more like these.
As for the V8 Vantage, it seem they've gone to flat plane crankshaft, something that Spyker did in 2008. Sounds quite anonymous now

Reminds me of the 993 GT2 or the 996 Bi-turbo we saw in '05. That or the Nissan engine that Rollcentre ran in the same year. I quite like it actually! Same can't be said for the Aston, though.

Looks like Adrian Newey has gone back to driving GT40s... let's hope he doesn't go back to wrecking GT40s though.

I'm sure a lot of you will be trawling through various video hosting websites in the build up to the LM24 in a fortnights time. While doing my own searches I came across this little gem of the great 1989 race and its without doubt one of the most amazing I've discovered to date.

Available in 8 parts but the real action gets underway in part 3, enjoy;

Le Mans 24h 1989 Digest 3/8

Best watched with decent headphones and the bass turned up
