Jerez Testing (updated 14/01/05)
10/01/05
Williams and BAR are out testing today. Williams have Heidfeld and Webber driving. Nick did himself a power of good by outpacing Webber by a whisker. According to the report MW and NH did a similar number of laps and were on track at the same time so the times are representative. BAR were running a hybrid 2004/05 car. Times. 1. Nick Heidfeld (Williams) 1m17.457s, 91 laps 2. Mark Webber (Williams) 1m17.583s, 90 laps 3. Anthony Davidson (BAR) 1m18.202s, 75 laps 4. Enrique Bernoldi (BAR), 1m19.255s, 89 laps Tomorrow we get to see the first run out of the Toyota TF105, plus Ferrari and Renault are set to run. I posted a thread 4 mins before this!..."Some teams are in for a shock!"...sorry for any confusion.
Thanks for publishing Autosports times Super Tourer...remember they arn't official times...teams publish there own and some teams PO's release them to the press. Williams are running the old 2004 wings, BAR are testing 2005 spec, so don't be fooled folks! |

They could both be running the same rules and I would pretty much disregard the times.
The interesting points here are that all ran many laps. An easy start to testing which will no doubt build until March. |

The point here is that Heidfeld appears to be making all the right moves for that second seat.

How can Pizzonia stand a hope in hell when Heidfeld hasn't put a foot wrong since he quit the Prost team many moons ago. He dfinately deserves his chance and should have the ability to mix it with Webber.

Todays times - 11/01/05
Webber reversed the position of yesterday slightly outpacing Heidfeld. Toyota ran their new car but completed fewer laps due to minor overheating problems. 1, Mark Webber (Williams) 1m16.558s, 116 laps 2, Nick Heidfeld (Williams) 1m16.765s, 86 laps 3, Franck Montagny (Renault) 1m17.458s, 104 laps 4, Anthony Davidson (BAR) 1m18.593s, 96 laps 5, Ralf Schumacher (Toyota) 1m19.018s, 40 laps 6, Enrique Bernoldi (BAR) 1m20.178s, 134 laps Times from www.autosport.com |

What's up with BAR? They've seemed way off the pace all throughout the winter testing. Being a BAR Honda fan I'm worried for the new season ahead.

They are not way off the pace - but there is little to be gained by looking at headline times and trying to draw a conclusion. |

As KB says, times not easy to read at this time of year but BAR have done a lot of hybrid/2005 spec running and seem to be following the same work process as they did with the concept car last year. If it delivers the same result they will be in good shape. |

BAR will presumably produce a '05 car that is quicker than the '04/'05 concept/hybrid car so should be well ahead of the Toyota. However for the Toyota to be so close to an established car after so little little running is quite encouraging. |

BAR and Ferrari were both near the bottom of the time sheets before the Christmas break. BAR continue to run near the bottom of the order as testing resumes. The '05 cars will be slower. We all know this. If they're testing a good number of '05 parts the cars should be slower.

That's an impressive debut from the Toyota, and Ralf reckons the balance is pretty good straight off - they are getting there, for sure.

Pizzonia was pictured out of the car peering at the rear, it also looks like a Ferrari had a trip into the tyrewall during the day.
No doubt we will get times and more info shortly. |

Nice one for Nick... beats MW on the first day and is not embarresed by Webber on the second.... Pizza-boy will have to be on top form. IMHO it should not even be a contest... i think Nick is just better than AP...but thats my opinion.
BTW not a bad start for the Toyo's.... if you consider that the cars will be about 2-3 secs slower.. then their lap time doesnt look too bad.... guess we'll know when the big guns unveil their 2005 challengers |
