One of my heroes... together with Ronnie and Elio. No other driver was like him, ever.

I've always felt that he was born in the wrong era - he belonged to a different age, maybe the early 60s at the latest.

Back then most drivers took part for the challenge, and accepted the dangers. The crowds then would have loved his gung-ho approach and superb car-control.

One of my first memories I have in my life is the deadly accident of Gilles, I was three and a half years old, and I remember perfectly seeing the accident in a black and white TV on the news, his body flying to the fence. For several years (many actually) I had that accident in my mind, but didn't know his name, just that was Carlos Reutemann's Friend (those were the words of my mother when she explained to me). At that time, my mother used to watch F1 on sundays cheering for Carlos's sucess, and I remember watching it with her. When I grew up, and had the opportunity to see Gilles accident again, everything made perfect sense with what I remembered.

So for me is very special, an event that impacted deeply in my life.

RIP Gilles

RIP Gilles. You were one of the best. A shame he died so young and never claimed a WDC.

I would have liked to have seen him and Senna battle each other.
