goodyear back in F1
hey all,
just read the news that one of Goodyears main men will be in Austria this weekend on a fact finding mission.....sounds like a good start to me cause imagine having 3 big tyre companies in F1. I was surprised they left and i think the company has suffered for it even if they had to make cutbacks at the time for financial reasons. bring it on and ill go and buy those goodyear F1 road tyres for my car instead of bridgestones.. |

i read that to.
id love to see um back in i agree it was a big loss for um when they left 3 lots of tyres would make things very interesting!!! has it happened b4? if it happened now, id imagine they would be quite popular, cos 3 years isnt really all that long. they would have nearly all the info they needed to come back in straight away. |

hey thr,,
im not sure but i had a feeling there might have been 3 makes involved at somestage in the 1980s when Goodyear and Pirelli were both in but i cant think who else because i think Michelin had left by the time Pirelli joined. Ah I love watching footage of Jean Alesi in the 1990 Tyrrell with Pirelli tyres..so awesome especially parts of the Monaco coverage. He will be missed when he retires. But if we had the three giants in Goodyear, Michelin and Bridgestone all battling it would be very interesting indeed. |

Yes, there was a time. Goodyear and Firestone came in during the mid-sixties, Lotus on Firestone, Cooper too, I think, and Ferrari went that way. Brabham on Goodyear, going with Eagle too when they came in. Dunlop were still around until about 1971 or 1972, from memory..
But what about the fifties? Englebert, Pirelli, Dunlop, others? |

Well, it comes with the territory when you start to lose your hair.. the stuff you read in old magazines pushes the hair out...
I suppose 1955 had four tyre brands, with Continental on the Mercedes. |
