Makes me wonder when will Nintendo sponsor Formula One? It's becoming like Mario Kart, one step at a time!

they could put the titanium rubbing blocks on randomly actuated hydraulic rams to push them against the track surface .....

Some other "bright" ideas they could try...

* An extra fuel tank so they can inject fuel directly into the exhaust to generate flames.
* special tire formulations so you can produced colored tire smoke. Spectacular starts and light those tires up on corner exit!
* Extra WDC points given at end of race for things like most spectacular drift, most air caught jumping curbs, hand gestures at other drivers during race, etc.
* Double points if you can complete the entire last lap in reverse.
* Constructor points awarded to teams for actions by team principles during races. Things like most stoic look while teams car breaks down and DNFs.
* Funky horn shaped exhaust pipes to increase engine sound (oh wait, they already tried that)
