Sandgroper should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Didnt everyone have the same tyres ????

SO the way you manage them depended on how and where you finish.

We dont always need Penske and RBR winning, great to see these smaller tams throw all the eggs in 1 basket. I thought it was great.

Yes and no one had tyres that enabled them to be remotely competitive in all 3 races. Those people that “managed” their tyres to be competitive in Race 3 were running around at the back in other races. If you wanted to run near the front in Race 1 you were automatically condemned to the back half of the field later on.So there were no races where the whole field was actually racing. In each race close to a third of the field was driving around on tyres either already wrecked or being preserved for an occasion where they finally decided to race.
The first meeting at Eastern Creek saw a variety of people near the front due to tyre strategy. It was not a situation that meant if you wanted to win you needed to be prepared to spend a large part of the weekend close to last.
Like I said in a previous post this artificial rubbish will likely be embraced by your average Supercars fan.

2 of the best weekends the Taxis have dished up in a long while.

They should have two races per weekend. 1st race half the field in Supercars, the other half in go karts then swap around for the 2nd race.

SAME RULES FOR EVERYONE and like, at least a thousand overtakes!!!

So to win the championship under this format you basically have to sacrifice the chance to run up front and finish a consistant 8th every race.

In the mean time teams that have little hope of a championhsip will be winning the races.

I like seeing the underdogs/smaller teams like BJR and WAU have some time in the sun too. But there has to be some integrity to the results and last weekends tyre nonsense went too far to have that.

C'mon, you're being silly now . Half the field in racing karts and half the field in mario karts would be better!

I liked the 1st weekend at SMP but I don't think that the mix of hard and soft tyres really delivered from a sporting point of view. For sure plenty of passing etc and I agree with Old Tony that casual observers would have loved it but bit too contrived and in any case, there was plenty of passing on the 1st weekend when they all had the same tyres all weekend.

I suspect that the mix of hard and soft may have worked better at Winton (which is less hard on the tyres than SMP) and the late change of venue caught them out somewhat, but trying some different things is not so bad and clearly the 2nd SMP weekend wasn't as good as the 1st weekend there IMHO.

No.It is the constant desire to “flick the switch to show biz” that has driven a lot of fans away from Supercars and left many of those remaining with plenty of cynicism. This has been going on for years and tyre lotto is just the latest manifestation of this.

Looking through various social media (Facebook/Instagram etc.) feedback seems quite positive. Speedcafe ran a poll on the subject which was 53% in favor with <10% undecided.

Early days, but could this actually turn into a ratings boon for Supercars? Fans just seemed happy T8/Penske didn't win - not many seemed to care about the tires.

While it might prove popular short term, there's a hidden long term problem. Brock, Lowndes, Whincup, Johnson, Moffat etc are all fan favorites, legends you might say. This reputation came from winning, a lot. Dominating. Forcing the Championship hopefuls to go for "best average finish over 3 races" will rob fans of the next legend, even if it is "entertaining".

From a (far away) outside perspective, Supercars has its big events at Adelaide, Bathurst, Gold Coast... As long as they leave these mostly untouched with these kind of rules, it could be a good way forward. So have entertaining rounds during the season but let them have a proper go at the big events without messing around too much. The big teams and drivers will still have their glory moments in the big races and the smaller teams can have some fun in between. Drivers that have won 5 times at Bathurst are more likely to be the future heroes than the ones that have won a 50 minute sprint race at SMP right?
I know it's not pure racing but a good way of making the show a bit better.

If they had made the teams use both compounds within each race I think that would have been more effective.

First SMP round was far better, the 2nd one did not feel legit.

I agree with djr81, too manufactured.

Just caught up with the 3 races from Sydney last weekend which I found very entertaining. However you look at it, the tyre restrictions made for some interesting racing.
