Egg [iV8SC11-R12&13] SkyCity Triple Crown Darwin June 17-19

Can the #8 car continue its run of the last few meetings and win a race or two in steamy Darwin? Or will the #88 or #888 cars shine in the part of the world some would call utopia?

Maybe there is something in having 8's in your car number?

Meantime, Mr Reindler moves up to a newer chassis Here.. and LDM seems to be in a state of flux...

Lets see who will win huh..

88, 888, 5, 6, 15, 2, 8 & 33 to fight it out with 39 the "roughie". Have i missed anyone ?

Can't see anything but another dominant Holden display, but hope i am wrong from an entertainment point of view.

Have to read about it here or on Speed cafe as V8 Supercars Televison(read Play School Doeas a better Job) and C7 or West 7 Media(read Kerry doesn't give a ****, nor that fat ******* in melb) so I guess the coverage will be crap again.

So I hoping Gis will keep going, Brighty to keep giant killing, and maybe Courtney will not bend anything on his car.

Dear Ford Teams,

Get a mirror, stand in front of it, then take a long hard look at yourselves. Once finished, go down to Bunnings and buy a bag of quickset...each grab a spoon, heaped generously, then swallow, along with your pride (if there is any left) then get out there and kick some Holden butt!

Frosty, you found pole, get it again, drive away with your elbows out. Will, back him up and only let a fellow ford driver pass if you must. Stevie J, wring the neck of the #17, Giz...show everyone that Hamilton was no fluke, and Timmy Slade..push push and keep on pushing. Tail gunners Alex and Moff..fend off any attack from the Red Barons at will, and PD...keep up the consistency.

Lets show Holden that they cant dominate, JW has the championship all but won, and rightly so, the bloke is a class act, but we can do just as well without doing anything foolish.

Rant over....and by the way, good luck brighty, nice to see you above the more fancied outfits!

Weather is always a factor in Darwin, whether it is fine and 31 or fine and 32. Whether you wear singlet, shorts and thongs or go more formal and wear a t-shirt, shorts and thongs.

TSR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Everything is booked, first time for me at Darwin.

Just hoping NO praying that a Ford can win, this V8 Commodore series is starting to get boring.

Top 10 Shootout is back for the Triple Crown

Quote:
V8 Supercars has reinstated the top 10 shootout for the Skycity Triple Crown at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway in three weeks time.

The amount of Top 10 shootouts were decreased this year, reserved for high-profile events only.

Darwin’s event has been granted the popular shootout format due, in part, to its name. The event has always been known as the ‘Triple Crown’ but with only two races on the card, V8 Supercars has included the shootout to give the event three competitive aspects.

The top 10 shootout will be run on Saturday before Race 12 of the V8 Supercars Championship.

Darwin specialist Alex Davison scored pole at Darwin last year and says that having the shootout back is a bonus for the fans.

“The top 10 shootouts are quite a cool thing to do. I personally think it’s good to watch and it adds a bit of interest and a bit of excitement,” the IRWIN Falcon driver told Speedcafe.com.

“It also gives the fans some extra time to see the cars on the track, which is a good thing.

“I agree with cutting the shootout out of some of the smaller events. It makes the shootout more of a novelty, rather than a regular, and it gives the shootout more prestige.”

Davison has enjoyed two of his best V8 Supercars moments in Darwin, including his first V8 podium in 2009.

Regardless of his success, Davison says it’s an event that is popular amongst the drivers and teams.

“Out of all the races, it’s an event that teams and drivers love going to,” he says.

“The track is good, the weather is great and the atmosphere is really good. I can see why they’ve put the shootout back there.”

The Skycity Triple Crown will be held on June 17-19.

Aaahhh Sizzle, it seems some young person(not genderising) with a degree or diploma in, ARTS or something similar that is not value adding to the talent pool, has an idea that has no significance or relation to the event. They normaly run around promoting how important they are, and generaly get in the wayand get their way.

Unfourtunately, they end up as manangers, normaly,Marketing Managers.

Had a run in with one of these some years ago at the Indy event on the Gold Coast. I won out, poor little princess.

They have this belief that a poofteenth of the public needs to be catered for.

I agree with you.

Sure have something, but of relivance. not because it makes you feel warm and fuzzy, and on you Cv , I did the Event Entertaiment at Hidden Valley.

If they don't get rid of them soon I might have to shoot over to the Aus Gt thread so I am not a bogan knuckle dragger anymore!

I guess there aren't enough supports willing to take the trip which I think is more the problem. Even more track time for local guys is much much preferable to the stunt knuckleheads.

Went to the last round at winton, some blokes (in hot cars) come out and did burn outs. Dduring the middle of it, i took a moment to look at the crowd, every man woman and child was on there feet watching. Only the main race attracted a more interestred crowd.

Burnouts, drift cars, stunt riders etc (this includes autograph sessions, pit tours, grid girls, merchandiese tents, rides, posters) are part of the event experience, to take them away reduces the event, it merely turns things into a car race and less people will go to a car race.

in the words of the great homer hudson "give the people what they want and give them lots of it"

But Winton is different... Shepparton nearby is a place of pace... the high speed runs down Wyndham Street on a Saturday night, drag racing on Old Dookie Rd in the pitch black... there is a genuine car culture there. Its also got a LOT of genuine GT's, HO's, HSV's, Brocks... even WRX's and Evos... and the like... Funny to see someone with an immaculate low mileage worked GT in the garage, and them rocking up to work in a 30 year old 323

So some pockets of the fanbase have that indoctrinated car culture... I wonder if the same can be said in inner city Melbourne at Albert Park?

is Darwin different to winton though GTR?

and maybe the real question is if Albert park really different to Winton, what pulls the big viewing crowds at the Albert Park (I was there this year) apart from F1? it used to have stunt bikes, I didnt see any this year, Crowd has reduced, any coincindence?

i hardly think the lack of stunt bikes thinned the crowd. perhaps it was more of the lack of beer vouchers in the wallet on average for the general public

Actually why cant that happen? Free beer/softdrink/water sounds good.. accompany that with thirst-inducing hot chips or something similar, and you may have just cranked up demand for more food & drink sales...

they could, but then we would whinge about the $20 increase in ticket cost to cover the 1x warm cup of light beer and 1x small bucket of chips*

*sauce, vinegar, salt & pepper extra

A lot of things have to taken into account for preparing for a meeting.

the draw card = V8 Supercars
Support Catogorys: Porche, Utes, FF, Local content
Entertainment between events: Burn outs, bikes stunts, in Darwin's case a FA18 jet(from Tindell) and some LAV's or Tanks(Armoured Regiment). Local drift club, i.e. Toyota Supras with computer controlled engines.

This depends on the demographics of age groups coming thru the gate. Some years ago everybody wanted to see the HQ's. Then the minis, then something else.

Well versed in demographics, just look around your neighboring suburbs, as the age group gets older, kids grow up and move away, the entertaiment package should change to suit .(but not all the time)

Some like Victor doin burn outs, some like Robbie on his bike or in his ute, some like drifters.

Motosport has to offer up some things to keep the punters happy, and I agree with most post's. Some is relivant to the location, and some is absolute crap.

It would be great if we could cover all age groups, rather than some Marketing Manager believing that all fans would love this. I mean realy, do BMX push bikes entrhall the crowd , were the smell of burning rubber and racing fuel is more paramount.

So perhaps some of us should push for the role of entertainment manager, but then again, the V8 Supercars Entertainment Interceptor(safety car) does that.

fomoco, generally i agree with your coments that you have made

but even though its just a humerous addition, i really believe we dont see the V8 Supercars Entertainment Interceptor very often any more, i agree that we used too, but in the last couple of years those days are getting rare, and if we do see them it is usually towards the start of the race when its not there for entertainment but for safety. I think they have moved things around enough now that we actually end up with entertaining racing without the artificial means
