[VASC16R12R13] CrownBet Triple Crown SuperSprint, Hidden Valley:17-19Jun

9 winners, 11 races.... the most diverse start to a VASC series in recent memory... and probably ever!

Time to head to insanely hot Darwin for the Triple Crown.

With so many winners, its actually hard to pick a form guide. How good is it not to know who will win the race until the race?

Will Frosty keep his championship lead, will one of his teammates break their duck of wins this year?

Will BJR back up their surprising Winton result here? Will Mr Bright get some speed in qualifying & race form?

Will the Ovlovs both get the same push in qualifying & the race?

Will 888 get a talking to from Mr Dane and get back on track with their 1-2-3 masterplan for every single session? Will stuff stop breaking on these cars? Another event with a Caltex tractor wont be fun..

Can Nissan win here? Two of them look quick most of the time, the challenge is that its not usually the same two, and isn't at the very front of the field. Something has to come soon!

Everyone seems to be talking Erebus up, can they get a win here? Will Mr Russell survive an event without something breaking?

Will DJRTP get both cars firing at the same time?

Will HRT trouble the scorers this weekend? Will Mr Courtney somehow find himself with an incident back in the field with one of the potential race winners, as seems a regular event?

Can LDM recreate their Clipsal strategy plays? Or will they choose to focus on setting record times for engine changes?

The biggest question of all is whether we can get 11 winners out of 13 races??

Only 4 weeks to find out...

Eight things we learned from Winton

2. Now for more

The expectation is that Slade and BJR will feature strongly at Darwin next month because of its combination of high-grip surface and soft tyres. Slade himself acknowledges that history suggests he will be competitive, but he is understandably cautious about making outlandish predictions for what the year will bring beyond that –

Watch HRT suddenly find themselves in winning contention, confusing no one more than themselves and once again reiterating the fact that they have no idea what's going on.

Or, they'll jag a trophy and say they're a competitive force again.

T8 reliability will be fine. Extended break between Winton and Darwin means the cars can be rebuilt from the ground up.

Fords are usually strong here with long straight suiting their powerful engines, however Lowndes had a good win here last year so perhaps 888s plan for domination can begin here. Reasonable support program with TCM and CC but no open wheeler content a bit of a shame. What happened to the F3 City of Darwin Cup?

F3 are struggling to pull a grid everywhere else, so the likes.of Darwin, Townsville and Perth would be a bit of a flop for them.

What about Eastern Creek, Calder and did not Oran Park host a night race for the v8

Eastern Creek and Calder yes, but not Oran Park. Can't really see the point. Darwin is always hot, the locals are used to it, so not likely to result in more bums on seats. From a tv perspective it will be going head to head with the AFL/NRL, so doubt it will bring a ratings spike. Much like the twilight experiment of a few years ago, expect it will be a one off.

wow what an error filled response

firstly the linked article was not by james phelps, although a summary from of a james phelps article in the news limited articles

secondly and i think this it pretty clear "The move will require flood lighting around the circuit and mark the first Supercars night race in Australia since the 1997 season opener at Calder Park."

Thirdly what a great idea, hoping to go to darwin in 2019 so a night race would be great

Hidden Valley will have exclusive rights to hold Supercars night racing for at least five years as part of a new agreement confirmed today.
So under this contract Hidden Valley will be the exclusive home to night racing for V8 Supercars for 5 years at least. Limiting it to one track once a year would seem an odd thing to do if it proves to be a massive success, surely?

Having journeyed up to the Top End for the V8s I just wonder if the businesses in Mitchell Street would be all that happy with a night race?

Personally spending the day at the circuit then an evening in town is far more attractive as an interstate visitor...

First few laps of the race were frantic. Did the boys drink too much red cordial before the start? Some poor driving and judgement today.

The single boom and artificiality of the races (I.e. 2 compulsory pit stops) did not combine well today. Too many drivers were disadvantaged by the pit stop chaos during the first safety car period. If they want to maintain a single boom why not close the pits while the safety car is out. It will limit the instance of double stacking.

Closing the pits during Safety Car periods has been tried in this series before and was a massive failure. This system doesn't work.

Perhaps a good idea is to ban refueling for the first 5 laps or so of the race? The cars would be more spread out should a yellow fall on lap 6 for example.

Any reason why svg wasn't penalized for contact in the pits? Could have easily pushed davo into the lhs tire boys

In my mind it was consistant with the new rules regarding contatct in the fast lane.

Minor contact now allowed

Some contact is allowed.

I think they're more interested in unsafe releases, and getting tangled up in pit equipment.
