DEFINE IRONY!

Silverstone for ever complaining about donington and blasting them when the track over the tunnel was unsafe, not level and flooded.....and now silverstone have exactly the same problem LOL!

Having said that, exactly the same occurred at the WHT last year with two cars off due to aquaplaning in about the same spot, so technically they've simply failed to improve it.

I think the difference is that the BRDC presumably have the wherewithal to sort it out, if they don't, a wet Grand Prix using the new layout will be carnage.

The straight on the national never drained properly and is the only place I have actually stopped and pulled off during a race simply because i could hardly see a thing. Does anyone know if the National layout is actually changing and significantly enough toeffect lap times.

It looks like the National circuit could be extended using the current International circuit's link and the curve onto the National straight.

The national circuit itself has not altered. However it appears that cars are already entering Copse more quickly as the straight is so open now the perceived extra space is making the drivers think they can go more quickly.

Quite right too. I was on the Runway Crossing post that day and was recovering one Lola which had aquaplaned, spun and stalled without hitting anything when one of the other Lolas in the same session went for an excursion. As it passed us it aquaplaned, spun once (or more) and hit the buttress of the pedestrian bridge before going off into the trap beyond the bridges. I believe it was something of a mess afterwards.
That said, it was a ridiculously wet day. Driving on a normal road was difficult enough, driving a racing car in those conditions was near impossible at points...

What is the Commercial Event on 27th March? Nowt on sillystone web site, but HSCC state the circuit is CLOSED all day Saturday...

Not sure if it's just a damp track or fresh tarmac but looks like a large portion of National Straight has been re-surfaced. Huge gravel trap in place along the start straight. From a spectator point of view we've lost a lot of the Becketts infield.

Also gone is one of my favourite 'punter' photo spots, just over the National Straight behind the marshalls post Becketts Inside. The bank's levelled, and I doubt Public Access will ever happen there again...

Lol . Kerbs are a bit ridiculous now, especially the ones at the new circuits. Look at Bahrain - there is a corner there which has about a car-width of kerb on its outside!?!

What's wrong with just a tyre width? Cheaper, easier to build etc. And having flat kerbs also seems a little pointless, unless you have bikes there, in which case, fair enough.

this redevelopment was meant to make the track more suitable for bikes so there's your reason. I do agree on that kerbs shouldn't be wider than a tyre width. One foot to half a metre seems sufficient to me.

Is that a large tarmac run off at the end of the National Straight or dark coloured Gravel?

If it's the former... haven't they over done it as there doesn't appear to be a lot of gravel beyond to catch a straight-on burst tyre or brake/suspension failure type of accident that tarmac run-off won't necessarily stop from hitting the tyrewalls.

Tarmac, I think it was originally done for the bikes. I had the same concerns as you. I've seen a lot of time where a car runs wide at the corner and either gets stuck in the gravel trap causing a yellow/safety car, or continues and drags gravel back onto the track. The tarmac should help in that instance but won't help if a car goes straight on and into the tyre wall. I think the barrier has been pushed back slightly (wasn't it a walkway behind it?) but not by much.

I'm a bit out of touch on this, does anyeone know if the plan is to reinstate a pedestrian bridge to replace the one that has now gone from the middle of the pit lane location?

I had to go there on Thursday,surprised at how far they had got, what with the cold spell we had. The National will not change lap times on layout,perhaps a little quicker on some of the resurfaced stretch's though,some kerbing has been replaced by the 'Saw Tooth' design,hopefully that will discourage any 'advantage seekers' though!
The Stow circuit has had an 'S' bend laid out,new Race Control and Pit Garages are being finished off,looking impressive and garages are quite a good size,easily big enough for 4 cars in each.
As for 'Bridge',if anything is going to done,they had best get onto it asap because nothing has been done yet,IF it is going to be changed.

oh please keep up.. Silverstone have announced the first meeting on Arena will be FIAGT.. The F2 should be on the Bridge circuit

I didn't think there was any plans to change the original GP circuit beyond reprofiling Club and Abbey.

I thought Bridge was remaining as always.

Actualy the only corner on the current grand prix track that may get changed permanently is Club. All others have their older layout remaining.
