Indy 500 for the pc

a few questions-

where can I get it? (besides ebay)
what specs do I need?
is it any good?
can I play it online?
If so, does it have a solid online following?

thanks for any help

I have it on on disk. Based on the 1989 race. It isn't too bad a game actually. It should run on most computers, the specs required aren't that high i don't think.

Are you talking about the game by Papyrus where you get a choice of three cars? Its a tiny programme, used to run off one floppy on my Amiga! I did have it for the PC but I couldnt control it with the Mouse so didnt play it.. buy yourself an old AMiga 500 off of e-bay as its best with a mouse - only annoying feature is that it wont save the game whilst ur racing which can be pretty frustrating when ur ex-girlfriend comes in with a cup of tea on lap 198 when your miles in the lead and whilst looking up you take off a wheel on the pit wall.....

I once downloaded it from a site with demos (as it was so little) but can't remember the site. It's not too bad, considering the epoque...

Downforce I will check to see how many copies I still have - IIRC it wont copy staright from a disk, you need the original unless its been cracked. Also the original has manual protection! I used to have a cracked copy but I think I copied over it when I got the original.

Great game, I used to play it on our old 386 a lot (I've got it on the new PC now but I never play it). Can anyone remember their best lap times ? Mine was 38.41 sec.

I think i may get it back out and have a go at it again.

I recall that the Penske/Chevrolet is the gun car in the game, if you can keep control of it you fly, i got pole there once in it.

wow, this game is amazing! okay the graphics arent all that but what do you expect from a game from 1989? you should all download it now, the fact that came from the makers of Grand Prix Legends is excuse enough!

Yup, Papyrus made Indycar and Indycar II, which is also the source for several North American tracks converted for Grand Prix Legends.

The version of Laguna Seca in that game is pitifully inaccurate. Papyrus has a tendancy to make some corners _way_ too long and slow.

Won't it run otherwise? My experience with running GPL (accidentally) in Win98 compatibility mode is the same. As soon as I took the compatibility mode off - whoosh - fantastic performance.

I checked and I mean 28.41 sec. (as I said it's been a long time since I even looked at it and my memory isn't serving me well when I've got vacation :-))
I don't have a joystick but as far as I know it's only keyboard compatible.

I used to win the 60 lappers on my Amiga version by about 2 or 3 laps and the few times I completed the 500 I won by about 5 laps etc... but I was at Uni at the time so had time to spare!

Just go for a really low downforce setup, turn the boost to maximum, don't run qualifying with a full tank. That's about all I can remember.
