Jenson Button has been pulled for speeding by French police. He was pulled doing 140mph and fined £500 according to Capital Radio.
Silly boy. |

Gee whiz, ten seconds of his income down the drain. Let that be a lesson to you, Button Spice!
Times have changed all right; used to cost Gilles only 10 pounds per speeding ticket (which his wife said he always cheerfully paid!) |

At that speed, he'd have to be worried about losing his license. Can he still race without a road license ?

Actually he's only allowed to drive diesel cars in Europe until he turns 21.
But the reports are that he got no points on his license, just a "mandatory fine". I wonder if the cop knew who he was? Maybe he was trying to outrun the papparaazzi? |

Seriously, I think there should have been a much stiffer penalty for his offence. Not only is he a role model for countless people, the offence itself is stupid, dangerous and irresponsible. He may well be able to control his car at that sort of spee, but let me tell you something, if there's an incident up ahead, no way is he going to have a chance of stopping. Plus, he should consider the other road users. If I were in the fast lane and saw something that bloody quick coming up behind me (as actually happened the other day - stupid BMW driver forced me to take a greater risk than I'd like to get out of his way) I'd be likely to panic and do something stupid to get out of his way in time, and I'm not a timid or rash driver usually. Still, at least as far as I know he didn't have any passengers. Killing or maiming yourself and/or writing off an expensive piece of property is one thing, but risking other people and their property is unacceptable.

Well said ! Maybe he should come to visit my country to see how horrible crashing cars are. This week I had the unpleasant meeting to one just minutes after it happened. The car (a Fiat UNO) was so fast in the highway that he hit another one and made 5 loops before landing on the wheels again. the bad luck driver was using seat belts, but that only made it worst... his head was smashed by the turn of the car in the ground... not a very good thing to see !

And I bet Sir Frank Is Not Amused. This is not the kind of publicity he likes.
And WHO won the Indy 500 today - a brand new track he had never raced on before with a bunch of cut-rate pilotes in $50.00 cars - and made it look as if he were driving all by himself? Paging Juan Pablo Montoya - your table is ready ... |

"Can he still race without a road license ?"
- I know down here in Oz you dont need a road license, in fact in 1998 a driver got rubbed out of road driving for being caught under the influence of alcohol...never stopped him from racing... |

Crash... you are right, here in Australia, there is no "crossing over" of a road licence or a CAMS licence.
I had my full CAMS permit when I was 16...and that was in the days when you couldnt get your "L" plates for road until you were 17. Maybe there is a point here...if it did infact cross over, it would be the perfect deterrant to the "racers" who abuse "road" rules. |

I thought when I first saw the two threads that two F1 drivers had been caught on the same day!
