Kurt Busch had a bit sophomore jinx this season, but he's going to be strong next year.

If you look at the top 8 from this season, they will be the strong drivers again this season. Therefore i would Harvick to muggle not's list.

Harvick newman Kenseth, will put up a fight, no reason he can't not win all season except once. Jimmie Johnson- strong car strong racer good team Junior- Earnhardt will feel more pressure, but for him to stay in form all year, i think he gets too emotional behind the wheel, as does Kurt Busch they'll be top ten agin but not the winners. Tony Stwerart- always a force bobbby Labonte- some of the best cars out their and he stays Texas cool all race. |

I am a Woods Brothers fan, but I don't like their current driver (Ricky Rudd), come back Elliot Sadler! (Or hire Jeff Burton or Greg Biffle)

Having compiled some statistics on NASCAR-greats of yester year and todays stars, it leaves me with four favorites for the 2004-title:
Jeff Gordon for an impressive 63% top-10/48% top-5/17,5% wins in a career that has nettet him 4 titles already. I think the current generation of young hot-shoes will bring out the best in Gordon for 2004. He don't like to be run over by those guys and unlike some of the older stars like Mark Martin and Rusty Wallace he should be able to fight back (he did so in 2001). Tony Stewart has been a frontrunner since his debut in 1999. His 7th position in points in 2003 is in fact his worst finish! There's plenty more to come from this guy, at the wheel of one of the best teams in current NASCAR. Ryan Newman for his sheer speed in 2003. With vily old Roger Penske in the corner, this guy should be able to get speed AND consistency together for 2004. Jimmy Johnson should have been my fourth pick, but since he's another Rick Hendrick driver I don't think he's capable of challenging team mate and car owner Jeff Gordon (for now, that is). Johnson's statistics though shows that he's right up there with the best of the current active drivers. So is Mark Martin and Rusty Wallace, who have one 1989 title among them. Both have strugled mightily with younger team mates this season. Martin finished only 4th out of five in the internal Roush Racing "Championship" after his worst season since he became a regular competitor in 1988. Rusty Wallace has to beat team mate Ryan Newman, which I just don't see happen in 2004. All of the above mentioned drivers has a +50% top-10 finishing record over their entire career, and since consistency is the key to NASCAR championships, this is my shortlist of eventual 2004 winner. Statistics is not everything, and I would like to be surprised by a serious challenge from the likes of Dale Earnhardt jr., Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch, but they have to get their acts together. Of the old generation Bill Elliot seems to be the hottest driver at the moment, and I would like to see him for a full 2004 season. |

I think Kenny Shrader will do well with the RCR team.
He has to realize this is about his last shot. |
