Rescue units

Dear all,

I am very intrested in getting involved with a rescue unit, particularly at Brands, or anywhere failrly close.

Does anyone know the best person to contact about this? I have tried the various clubs, BRSCC, BARC, etc, but so far have had no responses!

I know at silverstone getting onto the rescue unit tends to happen after you've been involved in things for a while, also if crews are fully manned at the moment there might not be any available spaces.

BRSCC Midlands are recruiting I think - although prob a bit far if you're looking for BH!

You will need about two year's experience on the bank before you will be eligible to become a rescue trainee. I recommend that during those two years at your favourite circuit you go and talk to the rescue crew (perhaps during your second year) and say that you are interested. They will give you details of who to contact.

In the meantime, I recommend that you take the time to acquire some kind of first aid qualification (HSE certificate or something similar).

I already have BLS and ATLS qualifications as I am training to be a doctor...although at the moment I don't have much experience!

Spot on then. All you need is the experience of motorsport and you will be a very welcome trainee.

Best of luck with it Staid. Im going into my fourth year on 'the unit' and although its had its up and downs it has been an overall positive experience and well worth doing.

It will also open your eyes to alot of things that most Doctors don't see. Being the first on scene when a patient is in an awkward position or combative etc is always a challenge!

if you are training at the moment, why not concentrate on yr training done then once qualified you can then become registered with the MSA and practise as a Dr at the circuits/clubs/units that you wish to

If you wish to get yr rescue licence then you can get that at any stage as some Dr's already have.

If you are more interested in being a 'trauma junkie Dr' then bike racing is the place to go

I would suggest sss is right, you need to concentrate on your medcal studies and just enjoy your marshalling for now. You need to gain much more trackside experience before considering rescue but once you have then you could work on the circuit as a doctor or contact one of your local rescue unit.
