In yet another failed attempt to tease interest FOM has ****ed up again. The sport is based on history, get that wrong and you lose half reason for its existence. This is not the 1000th Formula One Grand Prix. This may be, as Adam explains, the 1000th World Championship Grand Prix.

But unless you are really steeped in history it would have been better to leave the subject well alone. It's just another Grand Prix in a location that has no history of the sport.

Was that the one with the tyres that wouldn't get you from your front drive to the nearest McDonalds without exploding?

Now, now, you know full well that for a variety of historical reasons China has only been able to join the technological age and promote private car ownership in the past 30 years. These days, many Chinese people are very wealthy and are exactly the audience for Mercedes-Benz and other prestige cars promoted by Formula One.

No issue with the Japanese Bridgestones -- of course they had IRL series data to work with, being the supplier to the Indy 500! The only fault was with the French Michelin tyres.

Coincidentally Chinese tyres will no doubt be world class some time soon, and we may see a Chinese brand as the supplier of tyres to F1, F2 & F3.

No worries. Remarkably older Chinese people are usually very nice and kind, despite all the hardships of Mao era.

The 1000th World Championship race as I see it. ie includes the F2 and Indy years, which were World Championship races but not strictly F1 races.

Oh and thanks BR for the intro.

Some interesting team radio post Q3!

Leclerc annoyed at himself:

Quote:
Leclerc: F**k, I did mistakes. Come on, Charles! F**k. S**t.

Ferrari: Positions, Bottas P1, Hamilton P2, Sebastian P3 and yourself P4. Sebastian laptime [1m]31.84[s], and yourself – [1m]31.86[s].

Leclerc: Come on! F**k. F***ing stupid. F***ing stupid. What's the pole lap?

Ferrari: Pole lap, [1m]31.54[s]. 31.54. Stay negative [below the maximum in-lap time], stay negative.

Ferrari: It was a good recovery, ok? From FP3 and all the issues-

Leclerc: Yeah, but not good enough. Not good enough. Not good enough from me, on my side. Not speaking about the car, car was good. I should've done better, that's it.

Ferrari: Tomorrow it's the race.
Verstappen annoyed at everyone:

Quote:
LAMBIASE: Mate, you need to go now.

VERSTAPPEN [after the chequered flag came out]: Ah mate, f*****g hell. I’m finished right?

ENGINEER: We are finished.

VERSTAPPEN: They are such w**kers honestly. Everybody just lining up and they are just f*****g it up. You’re just trying to be nice but everybody’s just f*****g it up.
Magnussen and Grosjean not particularly impressed either... a bit messy all round there!

Is that why they bus the spectators in and the stands at Turn 12 are always empty?

Anyway congrats to Bottas, on his second pole of the season. Can he translate that into another win?

Based on the coverage, it seemed female fans dominated the stands.

Poor Valtteri. When Hammy takes pole, Toto et al. go ballistic when the cameras are on them. Bottas takes the pole and it's just smiles.

The only person(s) who have Valtteri's back are the guys in his garage and it pretty much ends there.

It was evident in Toto's interview where he didn't seem ecstatic being 1-2.
Disappointment was written all over his face...

Is it too early to start talking about Mercedes backing Bottas for the season? Is Hamilton's reign at Mercedes over?
