Vee at Cadwell
Why can't Formula Vee's stay on the circuit are they allergic to the black stuff they allways seem to want to jump of the circut and have a red flag?

It went something like this:-
Any Vee drivers guilty of any of the following go and stand in the corner: 1. Causing a Yellow flag. 2. Causing a Red flag. 3. Causing a Black/Yellow quartered flag. 4. Dropping oil on a circuit. 5. Breaking down on a circuit. 6. Damaging a barrier. 7. Spinning. Any guilty of ALL the above stay behind to be soundly beaten. Well that'll be me then |

Why is it that Formula Vee drivers insist on driving round circuits spewing oil everywhere! It's about time the scrutineers refused to give them a ticket when they arrive at scrutineering leaving oil puddles everywhere.

While in the pit lane at Donington for a 750 meeting early this year I happened to notice a vee dropping oil and pointed it out to the pit crew where it was coming from they took no notice so I told a scrutineer who then told them the error of there ways and they repaired it.

As a Vee driver (along with FilW) I can only aplogise for the amount of oil down.... it's been a long employed tactic in Vee to drop oil on the car behind you.... rumour has it that some drivers carry a quart of oil in a can in the cockpit for exactly that reason....!
It certainly seems that way! I think that the VW engine doesn't do a whole lot to help the amount of oil leaks... rocker covers are notoriously fickle.... Having said that, with an average of around 50 entries per meeting, the proportion of Vees that actually leak oil is probably not that much higher than other formulae, just there's a lot more of them...... With regard to crashing, etc etc... well I think the issue here is the level of competition.... with around 50 entries all in the same class things get mightly close.... At the front it's all very tight and quite quick.. Jez's fastest lap at Cadwell on the full circuit would have been the 7th or 8th fastest lap in F4 - which just goes to show.... At Silverstone 16th place was only 10 and a bit secs behind the winner.... At Donington, 4th to 14th were covered by 4 secs... so a) it all gets a bit close and fraught and b) people are perhaps pushing themselves closer to and/or over their personal limits as the red mist descends.... I think perhaps point c) might be that parts tend to be cheap too!... Cadwell in particular tends to "invite" incidents... Also, in our defence, the control tyres this year have, IMHO, been shocking which may have contributed somewhat, I cant tell for sure. |

Yep - having been in the Vee race on the Cadwell short circuit this year, I can agree that the hairpin is, how shall we say it,... "interesting"....
