Brazil

Brazil is truly celebrating A. Senna. They have a whole calendar of events scheduled. They have a lot of Senna memorabilia, souveniers and etc. Ten years after, remembered, a countryman hero. Excellent

Re: Brazil

The Ayrton Senna Institute in Brazil is to mark the 10th anniversary year of the Senna death with a concert on March 20, the day before what would have been his 44th birthday.

The concert will feature many of Brazil's top artists and celebritis, like former F1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, soccer star Ronaldinho and TV presenter Xuxa, an old girlfriend of Senna.

I've always felt that, had Senna been British, he would've acheived little respect at home. Firstly, he was from a wealthy backgrund, especially by Brazillian standards, and Brits tend to prefer a Working Class Hero. Secndly, he was ultra-successful with occasionally questionable ethics and a ruthlessly competitive streak, which doesn't sit well with the British love of gallant losers.

He was a great driver though, and a true national hero, so I'm sure this will be a great event. It ought to be a celebration of his achievements and successes, not a look at the tragic event sof his final days.

Although I was a Prost supporter at the time, I have to say that Senna was above money or nationality. His charisma and human approach, many times beyong the emotional will always captivate the minds of people who watched GPs like Monaco/84, Portugal/85 and Spain/86.

Who would say that a Toleman-Hart or a Lotus-Renault could fight with the likes of Prost, Lauda, Piquet and Mansell in the same track?

National heroe? Yes... I still remember his celebrations, driving and carrying the flag of his country. He was a proud Brazilian winning GPs around the world.
