Auto Racing in the Olympics?

Yeah I know this is off-topic, but with the Olympics going on I have wondered wether auto racing racing should be an olympic sport.

Keep in mind that there are events like cycling and bobsledding that uses machinery, and equestrian events are more of a skill than a physical sport.

What do you all think?

My post, from Aug 14, in Parc Ferme...

I wish autoracing was an Olympic event. Supply a spec chassis/engine/tire to each country, allow them to compile their national team of mechanics, pitcrew and driver. Have them race three road courses, a rally, and an oval in ten days, the top-three in points get medals!

Even better...

Have your national driver race a car, a bike, a boat and a dragster.

The only current class with half a chance of making it would be Formula 3. That would have to be the only really international formula.

There was an article the other day on grandprix.com discussing this very thing.

Motorsport have once been part of the Olympics, but it was Water Motorsports in 1908 (I think).

As much as I like motorsport I have to say that motors have no place in the Olympics IMO.

fazzaz has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
This idea was proposed in the 1960s by Mike Cook, then PR manager of Triumph (pre-Leyland) in the US. The idea was mostly a PR stunt, and went nowhere then either.

In my opinion anything that is not track and field should not be in the Olympics and especially any sport that has to be 'judged' to define a winner.

Wasn't track and field all it was in the first place?? Why not merge the two and save a few bob.
First past the post wins in my book, not some fella who got 9.7 from the Russian judge.

I think shooting includes archery in this instance.
