A spectator lost sight in one eye at Mallory Park back in 2010 (I think) at a rallycross event when a stone hit them.
The operating company later went into liquidation and the court levied a fine of £1000 in 2014 (again, I think) because there was no legal entity to fully prosecute. The case was brought using the Health and Safety at Work Act, so yes indeed, the disclaimers may be rubbish for some circumstances *but* they can support the operator when the ticket holder is the cause of an incident. Clear instructions, signage and restrictions are required and if someone is daft enough to ignore them then they may find themselves liable. |

I was Clerking that meeting and it happened right in front of Race Control, the poor chap was standing very close to a 'Motorsport is Dangerous' sign, in a public area.

For clarity remember that H &S fines and negligence claims are entirely separate, although both can arise out of the same incident. H&S can involve a criminal prosecution and criminal sanction such as a fine - and the fine doesn't get paid to the victim . A negligence claim is for damages , is made by the victim (or via his insurer , in the victim's name) and the money is payable to the victim .
In an extreme case there is also the spectre of corporate manslaughter. |

There are some interesting observations from McLaren's Zak Brown, on the potential impact of Covid-19, in this interview with the BBC.

The UK Open Golf championship cancelled now - that was going to be 16th to 19th July, so with that and Wimbledon this is two major UK sporting events now cancelled around the same time that the BGP is to be held...
Looking increasingly unlikely IMO. |

Another major blow to F1, the UK government has chnaged it's travel advice for UK residents to avoid travelling abroad indefinately. This will be the end for the F1 season IMO as the majority of the teams are based here and if they make their employees travel abroad against governent guidance, they will likely have no insurance to cover them and possibly will be in breach of various employment legisllation about employee welfare, etc.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, unless and until they officially cancel it, we should not just claim it’s not going to happen

We’ll see how long this lasts though. I was talking about cancelling the F1 season.

An announcement in Australia this morning may throw some doubt on next year's opening round. The New South Wales premier has announced that until there is a vaccine available then all measures on social distancing will stay in place. If this becomes a national or even just a Victorian as well then that would seem to scupper any sporting events and before anyone says run it without spectators that won't fly either. There is no way any pit stop could be done or any pit garage could be configured to meet the SD measures either. Oz has become one big jail and until a vaccine is proven effective and begun to be used I doubt any big sporting event is going to happen and certainly no event requiring a large importation of people into Oz to make it happen.
Other countries may take a more lenient view but the Oz government has gone hard core on prevention and recently told all people here on tourist visas to get out of the country and return home as there is no way they will get any financial assistance while they remain here. We have been told that the SD and ban on travel will last at least six months and then don't be surprised when it is extended and I will put money on it being extended. I doubt that the AGP will be the only race affected next year and if that happens as seems likely F1 is definitely up that well known creek without a paddle so to speak. Let's see how it plays out over the next few months. |

It occurs to me that a very good rescue schedule could be like this: 6/9 Silverstone 13/9 Donington 27/9 Magny Cours 4/10 Spa-Francorchamps 11/10 Zandvoort 25/10 Hockenheim 1/11 Nurburgring 8/11 Red Bull Ring 22/11 Sochi 29/11 Hungaroring 13/12 Imola 20/12 Monza 10/1/21 Paul Ricard 17/1/21 Barcelona 24/1/21 Portimao 7/2/21 Interlagos 21/2/21 Bahrein 28/2/21 Yas Marina And this calendar includes 3 continents which gives it the validity of the world championship according to the FIA regulations. |

Probably only a small chance F1 will even get under way in 2021.
This virus is going to cause problems for a long time to come. |

I have to say after the criticism F1 got for arriving in Australia for nothing, they seem to have handled the situation pretty well since then

to add another wrinkle in FOM's restart plans...with F1 teams retooling facilities to help with the health crisis, what are the optics of them retooling to go back to racing while the crisis is on going?
https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/m...ction/4777958/ i would imagine the teams have their own plans to get back to racing as quickly as possible and of course there are other facilities making breathing aids but you just know at some point there will be a clickbait headlines like 'Mercedes stops fighting Covid' aimed at making the company and sport look bad. anyways, any return to normalcy is going to be a dicey proposition imo. |

Canada now officially postponed, which is likely to be cancelled looking at the windown to reschedule. France likely to be on the cusp of postponement looking at TDF for guidance. Austria has banned all sports events until end of June, Austria GP in July so may be impacted if the ban is extended.
UK government briefing tonight not that enouraging regarding the lifting of lockdown, so I expect Silverstone to annonce postponement of BGP in the next couple of weeks. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk |

Official line seems to be that a decision on British GP will be made at end of month.

I think it’s best we leave it for a bit longer. After all although there are signs that the lockdown is working, we aren’t out of the woods yet. Let’s see what the next few weeks bring
