Historic F/Atlantic & European F2 Series

Earlier this year I proposed to Col Haste and Andrew Fellowes that we needed to start a series similar to those running in the U.K./ Europe for our type of cars .

With this in mind ,at the Australian Grand Prix in March this year I approached John Bowe , twice winner of the Australian Gold Star in Ralt RT4s, and still a top line driver in the V8 Supercar Championship to ascertain if he would be the Patron of the new group , and also to utilise his name in a point score series.

John , with his love of openwheelers very readily agreed , so we now have the " John Bowe Trophy Series ", the first round of which will be held at Sandown Historic Race Meeting 5/6/7/ November.

We have 24 cars entered for our 3 stand alone races.

Hopefully we will encourage many more of our style of cars to re-enter usefull service , and already enquiries re. cars and the Series have come from some surprising areas.

Our intention is to hold a 5 round Series throughout the year , with Sandown being round 1 , and the series running into the end of next year.

A bit more back ground and infomation. After Bryan Andrew and myself discussed the posibility of running a series, we looked at how many cars there were available to form a grid. At that time we identified 36 Atlantics and Euro F2s currently running in historics in Australia and another 12 in various stages of rebuild. Since then more have come to light and it is my understanding that there 32 Ralt RT4 group R Atlantics in Australia appart from all the other group R and Q cars.
At that point we decided that we needed an association,so we formed the HISTORIC FORMULA ATLANTIC & EUROPEAN FORMULA TWO ASSOCIATION.After Bryan had done his work at the AGP with John Bowe,we approached the orginisers of Sandown the VHRR to run stand alone races for our group.They agreed provided we supplied a grid of at least 25 cars.
We have received a great deal of support for the series and a lot of interest from future competitors, we can only hope that this interest continues.

Good to see a sub-group of Historically significant cars getting their act together. But, I don't fully understand the John Bowe connection (Naming Rights) unless JB is stumping up financial support for the series or, maybe, is it one of the Organisers has one of his old Lucky Nuts cars!!!

I know I will get canned for this but I feel someone has to say it!

If JB is tipping in (financially) to promote the class, or strapping into one of his old cars, may even pay for one one to drive - good on him, let it roll.

Otherwise......

The "Costanzo Cup" or "Moreno Masters" or "Ralt Round-Up" or "Tauranac Trophy" rings more bells for me!!!

In ansewer to your sugestion JB was a twice Gold Star winner in Atlantics and was asked to be the patron for the first series on that basis, no money involved.

Gents, I presume the Tiga is on eof the Alfie Costanzo cars ?

Negative , 1 of 2 bought in from the U.S.A. about 2 years ago.
At Sandown , Col and I will have someone in an anorack employed to make sure we get all the chassis numbers and as much info poss .

P.S. Both the Alfie Costanzo cars still exist , 1 already logbooked in historics in Western Australia and the other in Sydney, which had been converted to a Repco v8 hillclimb car , but will probably be returned to correct specs. sooner or later.

I recollect this car being punted around recently at either Phillip Island or Sandown - maybe next year!

Yes I ran against it at Phillip Island a few years ago , owned by ,I believe Joe Ricciardo from W.A.
Unfortunately it is such a long way for the West. Aust. guys to come , 1000s of kms.

Bryan, if not then I guess it may have been either the Crang or Sheldon ex-UK cars. Did any FAt Tigas go new to the States I wonder ?
