The Historic Breakfast (Circuit Catering) Thread.

It's the having to get up even earlier to have time for breakfast that kills it for me, although the only time I have a breakfast other than a couple of rich Tea biscuits with my coffee is if I'm staying in a hotel (when I don't have to be at a circuit for signing on )

I still have fond memories of the Mallory breakfast of old, though......to be consumed after qualy, usually

The Mallory breakfast was and remains the stuff of legend.

When I ordered my first Mallory brekkie in 2003 (yes, AFTER quali) the lady behind the counter chuckled in a surprised but benevolent way. Slightly miffed, I asked her what is so funny about it: She smiles and answered: You said "please", noybody does that around here.
I still do, though.

interested to hear from anybody else who has been out testing in the past few weeks - is it just me or are the covid protocols all fitting in very nicely and are easy to adapt to?

and did anyone else notice the circuit catering isn't anywhere near as good??

Castle Combe is a close second in the big boys killer breakfast. Having made a very early start on several occasions to travel from West Sussex, the paddock diner is always a welcome sight.

Must admit, that I was never a massive fan of the Mallory breakfast and couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about. I do like Dr Palmer’s 12 inch breakfast in a roll, though, and somehow they seem to be best at Oulton and Snetterton. Surprisingly good value for circuit catering, too.

I must admit that I cannot remember whether there was a cafe/diner at Mallory when I raced there in the 60s. What I do vividly recall though is my number one mechanic always cooked a full English on an industrial type portable gas hob that he set up on the flat bed trailer that we towed the Anglia on.

We only went to Mallory on our way back from a Redex Championship race held at Oulton on the Saturdays (I don't think that "club type" races were permitted on Sundays back then), and Mallory was a convenient half-way stop over on our way back to NW London.

Anyway, my mechanic always seemed to have cooked enough food for us plus any other of the drivers and crew who were around in the Paddock when we woke up, having slept there overnight.

On more than one occasion I have enjoyed a very nice fresh bacon buttie at the Goodwood Revival, made all the more enjoyable because it was in the company of our very own Bauble!

I also seem to remember a lovely bacon & egg roll at Knockhill many years ago.

Very limited at Brands testing today, a cup of coffee and a soggy burger that Iain Rowley treated me to

At the moment the menu is limited and everything has to be takeway, which on Wednesday and today meant we had very soggy chips for lunch.

The bizarre thing is they've made it one way, the entrance is the Fire Door near the toilets and the exit is where you normally go in and out.

Very confusing for us oldies.

I can only speak for kart tracks, but apart from masks and someone checking you in and out of the toilets it's all pretty laid back.

Could get done for heresy but in my opinion Mallorys breakfast is not what it was. Since Val and her team left the quality has dropped.
In my opinion the best sit down breakfast can now be found @ Santa Pod.
