Most Challenging Corner in Australian Motorsport History
I was sitting down and thinking about all the great circuits that have come and gone in Australia, and the few great ones we still have with us, and i thought "what is Australian motorsports greatest corner of all time"
The opening three corners at Warwick Farm ? Across the top at Bathurst ? Dogleg at Oran Park? Hayshed at Phillip Island? End of the back straight at Sandown? Your thoughts??? |

I dont think there is anything for a ballsy challenge at Surfers to be honest.
The only challenging street circuit corner i can think of is Turn 8 at Adelaide. |

Skyline. Turn 5, top of the hill at Baskerville in Tasmania.
The corner itself drops sharply away to the left from the brow of the hill and you cannot see anywhere near the apex when you have to turn in. The inside of the car unloads sharply as you turn in at the crest as well. Great for the bikes, not! There is no grass on the corner exit. It never gets a chance to grow!! Trickiest turn I know to get even close to right. L8tr E |

Is Baskerville still in use ?? What is Baskerville used for these days.
Ive read somewhere that Alan Jones rates Baskerville as the second best circuit in Australia behind Bathurst, but ive never been there and ive seen very few photos of the place on the net. |

Baskerville still in use? Yep
What for?????? errrr, stae and club level racing of course along with drifting, mud runs, bike racing and driver training. Fabulous little drivers track. http://www.hobartsportingcarclub.org/location.html This pix does not show how steep the hill is after turn 4 but gives an idea of the layout. L8tr E |

The old Turn 1 at Surfers was a flat out sweep (well before my time).
I understand Wayne Gardner described it as the best corner in Australia for motorbike racing. |

I used to watch the old superbike series when Surfers track was still around and the image of Gardiner bowling around that right hander with the arse end of his CB1100RC Honda, 2 feet outside the front wheel line and smoke pouring off with a big black line off the back wheel all the way to the braking area is still very fresh in my mind!!

A number of corners spring to mind, Skyline at Bathurst, Creek at Warick Farm, turn 1 at Phillip Island and even turn 2 at Eastern Creek.
I know the thread is about Australia however overseas particually like the corkscrew at Luguna Seca and the bottom of Bray Hill at the Isle of Man. |

Turn 8 at the current Adelaide is a real ripper. Also the right hand turn on Conrod Straight as you run into the Chase has also got to be among the best. Hell, it's the fastest corner in Australian motorsport.

Balls-out corner, that one... Although I always loved the shots of Lakeside's front straight kink... |
