Yoga instructor asking for an event boycott....pretty brave!

An interesting article here calling for a boycott of the ITM 400.

The complainant must be pretty brave as you can see how this could backfire horribly with a few fans doing some stirring.

Wonder what percentage of V8 Supercar fans are into Yoga?

Wouldn't a clever bloke take a 3 metre by 3 metre site, put a few lovely lasses in it yoga-ing, and sign up keen local blokes with a mobile EFTPOS - Pre-pay for your first 10 lessons for only $X at the event.

The queues could be horrendous!

"Mr Smart, who has run the school since 2001, said the advertisement was paid for by a group of disgruntled Frankton business owners who claim the six tickets promoters have offered them does not compensate for the inconvenience."

No wonder he's annoyed. Six tickets for a six week disruption of business! Not exactly generous compensation.

I have no idea how valid this guy's claims are as there's always someone that will protest an event that disrupts day-to-day life, but if they honestly thought that 6 tickets would compensate them they're kidding themselves.

Oh Boo Hoo, I'm almost in tears myself, after reading this clowns sob story. Maybe he would be happier if the local council canned the V8's and got behind a yoga conference. Wow, that would really attract some visitors to the place.

I'd bend over backwards to attend a yoga conference.

Interestingly, a few years back Mr Smart was also only too happy to court publicity but back then it was for his ambitious desires to profit from the street race by renting out his yoga studio ....... for 20 grand!!

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/motorsport/323597

Perhaps he just likes getting his picture in the paper or perhaps he is just bitter that no one was stupid enough to pay 20k to spend the weekend in an enclosed box enjoying the fresh aroma of sweat????

The last pargraph of this article is the key to this - the people of Hamilton need to 'embrace the event' if they want to enjoy the payoff's. As I understand it, the single biggest drop in ticket sales (by a very long margin) for last year's event came from the Waikato region.....if you ain't gonna support it, then don't complain it ain't working for ya!!

He probably should talk to the Save Albert Park (SAP) group and see how well boycotts and protests do in stopping a motor race.

Maybe he should speak to Julia Symons first, then work out how far he is willing to go for his cause!

Shooting someone is a bit more a serious issue, of course, and quite a serious matter.

Ducks often can become a plague, much like motorsport protestors though.

Interesting that of the two companies that were above the United Video building in the dance studio and the premises beside it in 2008, that neither of them are there now. One has taken an official corporate suite and the other has relocated to a premises near Lion Red for the past two events and is back there this year.

Maybe Not-So Smart, after all.
