I wonder what John Harvey's really thought about Brock and the Polarizer?

It would make for a very interesting long lunch!

But how good did those A9X's look in the Marlboro livery.

Pretty much answered in John's biography.

My mum is well into her 80s, grew up with my obsession of Mr Moffat. Thus PB was "the enemy"
She has no interest in car racing but she watched it,
she said to me after watching the doco
"He was a good man, unless you were married to him, like so many men."

The oddly, for a John Harvey biography (and yes I am dragging out this joke for the umpteenth time) titled Rise and Fall of Peter Brock.

It is a great read about John's days at the speedway, then with Bob Jane and the HDT with Harry Firth and of course his time with Brock.

It also features a couple of chapters on Brock.

1. It's a docu-drama
2. Like so many people, these accusations only surface once the person being accused is no longer around to refute or defend themselves. That to me means we should at the very least just not presume them to be true.

All of the accusations were around long before he passed away

I was too young when PB passed away to have seen him at his peak, and I knew of the rumours that Peter was less perfect away from the crowds.

The old adage it’s made round to go around.

In this world, no one is perfect, even a gentleman like meself will pass wind, dip my teddy bear biscuit in my morning coffee and take the opportunity to have a purve on the cute office lady.

Brocky might have gone a bit strange with the polariser gobbledygook, but he could drive a race car, promote Holden, promote motorsport and has given us some wonderful motorsport memories.

Yep I have that book, and with me being a long time Brock fan (from about 1972), it took me almost 20 years before I brought the book knowing it was not going to complimentary to my hero

There was also a second book, this one being purely about John without the Tuckey sensationalism. It's called "Gentleman" John Harvey (Memories of how it was), written/compiled by Tony McGirr. Published in 2000.

I have that book, and John Harvey is none to happy about it,apparently. Tony McGirr also wrote a novel called Tiger O'Brien, its about a fictional Bathurst 1000 in the 80s, most of the main characters names in the book from that period are there in the book, but their names are slightly change, for instance, Harry Firth become Harry Fryth, its a load of ****

Thank the good Lord a Moffat supporter! I still have the obsession too, it reminds me of my child/teenager hood.

The best Brockie book I have read (so far) is 'How good is this?' by Wayne Webster
A well balanced prosecution as far as relaying the various endeavours Brock found himself in throughout the years, not told through the eyes of a all- forgiving fanboy, nor a vindictive takedown from a hater.
Written by an actual friend of his and well penned to boot, rather than some of the hackjobs out there that are written from hear-say from unverified sources in about the same demeanor of some woman's day grade character assasination from some journalistic also-ran.
