Porsche has gone down the route of complex steering wheel, filled with buttons and switches and an integrated dash display.

I don't know about GTE cars, but some GT3 cars have such a steering wheel, like the McLaren 650. I think that the current Audi R8 LMS has a simplified version of the integrated dashboard/wheel.
And imagine that the Audi R10, when it came out about 10 years ago, was one of the first LMP cars to have such a feature that went beyond shift lights and a primitive digital readout, or a separate wheel and electronic LCD dashboard display. EDIT: the R8 has a separate Bosch screen and steering wheel like the LMP900/LMP1 car it was named after, but the Porsche wheel does look like it has the R8 LMS' Bosch screen shoehorned into the wheel. |

So much nicer livery.....
Hopefully, as an NA, it will sound better than the Ferrari and Ford too. |

My apologies, but I'm just not convinced. Porsche will have to spend the season hoping that the regulators have not made a mistake in their calculations, or they will be in for a real stomping from the Turbo guys.

These are the times we live in, where short-shifting and coasting down the Kemmel straight is arguably just as important as the decision on whether or not to use a turbocharged engine. |

The Vipers (and then the Corvettes) with normally aspirated engines used to beat the turbocharged 911 GT2s.

No waivers required to relocate the engine...

The more important question is how a flipped engine can go through approval without any waivers? Would assume engine orientation was covered in the regs, I think I have read it in a few regs but haven't seen current GTE. More out of curiosity than thinking it should be illegal, if they found a way to stick a giant diffuser under the car within the regs, go for it and kudos for their thinking and planning |

They'll have that real time atmospheric pressure bop, so that may come in handy for the NA cars. I'm taking a wait and see approach to the car. It sure looks good though.

My sentiments as well. Am afraid Porsche will end up spending a lot of time arguing for BOP - all season long. Hope I'm wrong.

That's a trick where on paper there was no BoP change to the turbo cars because it was phrased as adjusting boost for altitude, but realistically the boost setting given at that race was much less advantageous.

I hope that this is just an interim car until the 960 appears. I remain very dubious over this "solution", but I have been wrong more times than I care to remember, and I sincerely hope this is one more time. |
