1000 Miles MM Italy May 2010

They are releasing the first entries for the poncy run around Italy this week.

How many on here due to participate in this extravaganza.

If you have not done it before or missed out for a few years it's good fun.

Chefs, pop stars, old sportsman and odd very old racing driver.

First hundred places taken by Italians and Argentinians so as competition it's a waste of time.

Thursday night very good, and run on Saturday to Palma exciting especially through Tuscany .

Not the law breaking, red light running, wrong side of road race it was in 90's

apriliadriver should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
MM

John,
I bow to your superior whatsit ... and I never did the MM in the 90s, but me and a mate, (both moderate, cautious, elderly racing characters) did it in 2008 in an Alfa, and we ran so many red lights on the wrong side of the road (mainly courtesy those Italian motor-cycle police escorts exclusive to the MM) and so consistently murdered the speed limits that I had some difficulty adjusting to real-life on my return to the UK.

It is well worth a try just once and as JR says the drive on the last day from Rome to Brescia through Tuscany on local roads is just sort of magical.

Think it changed in 2009 when the new lot totally took over. Now have a chip in car to ensure you are where you are supposed to be at correct speed.
Remember leading on road one year from position 93 and arriving at first overnight halt over an hour early.Never did understand that Italian regularity stuff! The TV crew were not happy campers.Car No 2 allowed on ramp ,then No 1 then they allowed 93 and waved us straight through!
The first year we finished about 150 and by the time we did last one and did the complete route got more penalties than some who did not finish in about 330 place.
Dispensed with watches at the beginning.

Was a bloody good laugh but didn't get accepted the following year and I have not tried since.A mate is borrowing one of the cars this year and I hope they don't remember our indiscretions should he get accepted.
