Astra RNR1
Sorry every one for not listing the parts. looking for front and rear shocks and possibly a radiator and a cross member on the engine cradle so far. I'm sure that the bushing's between the rear engine cradle and the wooden monocoque will need to be made.
Thank you again for any help Last edited by Pete611; 11 Feb 2019 at 19:24. |

Regarding specific to the car parts, I can’t imagine anything you needs is going to be ‘off the shelf’, given how few of the cars were made. Radiator? Do you have something to copy, or, is it a case of starting from scratch? Do you have any photos to work from? There are many specialists on your or this side of the pond able to create a rad to any specification. Same with your chassis parts, I would think that they will have to be made from scratch. Can you get access to any of the other Astras remaining? (I presume there are one or two...) Could be useful in assisting with your rebuild. |

As Mike says, a radiator is easy (Be Cool for inst). Plywood, classic boats specialist like Rivas. We have a guy here dealing with boats specialists, often more affordable when it comes to moulding. He runs rare cars like Cheetah or Alba. May be Corbin could help for the glass fiber parts? Remember the joint venture between AMF and Milwaukee bikes?

Thanks every one for the replies, the car was dissembled years ago and we do have most the parts to either rebuild or get specs off of. just trying to keep it as period correct as possible. As for the dampers/shocks I'm in contact with a company now to see if they may be able to get/make a rebuild kit made for it, the actual shock body is rust free. radiator has a little damage but we can get dimensions off it. thank you MR Bell and Gerard

By the sound of it your marine plywood chassis / tub is in good condition, which it should be if undamaged, and the car has been kept in the dry! With regard to crossmembers and the like, quite often if all the ‘big bits’ are offered up to their correct location, it can then be worked out where the member(s) would have gone and their shape. |

MR Bell, the radiator is still traditional metals, we are debating is whether to go aluminum or stay traditional metals, all pieces of the car have been stored in a temp controlled garage, our machine shop is rebuilding the motor now along with a couple of the front steering parts.
Again I'm thankful for all the information yourself and everyone else has given. |

Have you contacted Roger Nathan?
He apparently helped with the restoration of the Costin Nathan prototype having failed to buy it when it was auctioned. |

I think Peter’s suggestion of attempting to contact Roger Nathan is your best bet. As to whether that’s possible by using forums or social media, I don’t know. As the early cars used Hillman Imp engines, it may be that someone in the Imp world would have a better idea than us.

You've obviously read post 9 on the History Archive regarding the main differences between the RNR1 and RNR2. Interesting that chassis #035 isn't mentioned, so may be worth posting the latest info you've found on there as well. A lot of historians read those threads. It's amazing what they come up with at times!

Not sure how to contact him but when his biography came out I ordered a copy and actually met Roger shortly afterwards and he remembered sending it to me, so you should be able to find him through the book (or H&H auctions who sold the prototype).

Roger still seems to be active with the biog and public talks, so hopefully it won’t be difficult to make contact with him! Good luck.

Was that aimed at me?
Marc Widar is still running Widi restoring/preparing historic race cars. He's based somewhere near Liege and I've only been to his place once (was a rather more frequent visitor to his father's place) but did see one of the very first (possibly the first?) Lotus Elevens that he had recently finished at Spa last year. His place was amazing a massive storage area with a huge number of interesting cars in it - I think he has several lifetimes worth of work there! |

If anyone else can offer any help, please do so on the duplicate thread in Historic Racing Today. This one must be correct I guess.
Yes Peter Morley, Marc is restoring and racing so many cars may be he could help with some Astra information. A real nice person, genuine enthusiast and bringing the race cars on a old two bridges truck Ã* l'anglaise !Period correct in any aspect. |
