F1 2008 Round 18 : XXXVII Brazilian Grand Prix October 31 to November 2
This year's Formula One season comes to an end at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace at Interlagos, Brazil. This circuit was resurfaced for last year and should be less bumpy than it was before. Sadly.
We come to the race with neither title decided. Lewis Hamilton leads the WDC by seven points from Brazil's Felipe Massa. Following his sixth placed finish in China, BMW's Robert Kubica's dream of becoming the first ever Pole to be World Driver's Champion will have to wait until next year. The Constructor's Championship is less close, but just as exciting. Ferrari have an eleven point lead over McLaren-Mercedes. Not impossible, but challenging. Weekend timetable Local time in Sao Paulo All times are local Friday 10:00 : Free practice session one 14:00 : Free practice session two Saturday 11:00 : Free practice session three 14:00 : Qualifying session Sunday 15:00 : Brazilian Grand Prix. What Felipe Massa must do to win the WDC this year If Lewis Hamilton finishes in the top five, Felipe Massa cannot win the WDC and Lewis Hamilton will be 2008 World Champion. If Lewis Hamilton finishes sixth (3 points) and Felipe Massa wins the race, Felipe Massa will be 2008 World Champion by virtue of most Grands Prix won. If Massa does not win in this case, Lewis Hamilton will be the 2008 World Champion. If Lewis Hamilton finishes seventh (2 points), and Felipe Massa wins the race, Felipe Massa will be the 2008 World Champion by one point. If Lewis Hamilton finishes eighth (one point), and Felipe Massa wins the race he will win the 2008 World Championship by two points. If Felipe Massa were to come second in this case he would become WDC by virtue of races won. If Lewis Hamilton scores no points, any top two position finish for Felipe Massa would make him World Championship by points. Roll of Honour (just to make the thread more epic)

Interesting BBC weather forecast.Heavy rain showers with well below normal temperatures on Friday and Saturday.Rain showers also on Sunday. It should be noted that the GP is taking place a little bit later in the season than usual.
McLaren are said to be using a new rear wing and other modifications for this race.Still a question mark against Lewis's engine and I believe his gearbox is on either its third or fourth race! |

I don't remember any Prancing Donkeys taking a gearbox marchback this year (unless you are permitted to change it when you do an unscheduled engine change), so everyone would be in the same boat. As for two race engines the Mercedes unit is quite reliable unlike the Ferraris which have had issues ...

McLaren have also had one or two engine issues, but in general the current F1 engines and gearboxes are far too reliable.

I like reliability as it places a premium on performance, and allows for a drivers championship to be a more equally decided thing. It also means we have more cars racing each other throughout the duration of races.

It's quite a natural circuit in that it appears to follow the topography of the land. Some say it's not as good as the old circuit though.
I'm excited. |

All the best to both contenders.
I just hope there are no reliability issues, no team cock-ups, and no intervention from the stewards (needed, or un-needed). A nice dogfight with the 2 guys on top form.... to the winner, the spoils! May be too much to ask for, but one can hope, eh? |

Mind, I'll still be pretty sore about Spa if Hamilton doesn't win the title. |

Hope I can avoid all news of GP until I get to watch it on Sky+ as I am marshaling at Silverstone this weekend. I hope it is a good clean race and the bets man on the day wins.

The old Interlagos (long) was a cracker although I personally preferred the Rio circuit myself. Still I echo the feelings of others- No penalties or post race bulls-ups. No FIA interference in the final result.... please? |
