New exit to Mallory Paddock

The circuit has listened to grumbles from clubs about the delays caused by competitors wanting to leave the Paddock in the afternoon, and has fitted a new gate opposite the Pit Exit. Rather than blocking the Scrutineering Bay and the track exit into the Paddock, people will now drive behind the Pits garages and then make the short trip across the track into the Spectator area and then up to the exit. A hidden benefit of this will mean that the run up to the Hairpin will not be slippery after the assorted fluids from Trailers, Caravans etc have hit the track on the uphill run.

Ah, so that explains the road surface work on the spectator side of the circuit.

Indeed.

It will only be used in the afternoons of car meetings.

I think John E will tell you we had exactly the same thing at Croix en Ternois. The previous exit for trucks and trailers was located just before the fastest curve of the track, leaving "waves" ont the tarmac surface.

Just like Kirkistown other than Mallory is not flat.

Browsing back through some years of photos in the past few days it's interesting to observe the changes made to tracks as the years progress.

There might be a thread in that.

"The lost trees of the Parks" comes to mind as a starting theme.

Thinking about the positioning in respect of possible bumps developing or the deposit of vehicle fluids - is that about the point of a first gear change for the front row after a start?

GCCheddaris should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I recently posted some period Formula 5000 photos at Thruxton on Baubles Picture Parade and was surprised to see a Grandstand at the end of the start/finish straight back in 1974.

The structures back then were very much of a temporary nature, being made IIRC of scaffold poles and wooden planks and have long since been replaced by the two permanent stands at the Chicane. I am sure I can remember a stand at the Complex ( also long gone ) but the one on the start/finish straight which would have been in the line of the concrete runway I can't. Can anyone remember when it was taken down ?

Doesn't it speak volumes for the current landscape of British National motorsport that the logical place to announce this news is on a historic racing forum ?

To be fair it wasn't exactly"announced", it was someone telling his mates.

It occurs to me as Media, the problem is not getting out of Mallory, but getting in.
