Thompson Speedway Vintage Festival (video)

I shot this video on Friday (June 19) at Thompson, which is the site of one of the oldest road-racing circuits in the US. It closed in the 70s but re-opened in a different configuration last year.

We actually were only at the event Thursday and Friday because I wanted to get home for a ballet recital with one of my grand daughters.

Priorities.

Anyway, the Thursday sessions had only about 40 cars there so I ended up getting over 2-1/2 hours of track time.

The gearbox has been noisy in my Spridget for some time so I'd been thinking about swapping it out this week (before we go to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix).

But it exploded internally at the end of this race so that settles that!

More photos and videos later as I get a chance.

Like this idea you have over there of really getting some track time for your money!

Interesting circuit - what's the deal with the banked area that's coned off?

The banked area that is coned off is part of the "stock car track" at Thompson.

This is a "roundy-round oval" track where the stock cars and sprint cars race and only turn left.

The road racing circuit uses part of the oval track (the transitions on and off the oval track surface are terrible).
