SkyTV's "The Race"
Anyone else catch last night's "The Race" upon SkyONE?
Good Lord, it was dreadful. Whilst the concept behind the series (10 celebs, race boys-vs-girls in a variety of forms of motorsport) is not without merit, the execution was severly lacking. The live one hour show was fronted by the high brow duo of Denise van Outen (whose act appears to be nevering use a single entendre when a double is available) and Iain Lee (who must be crying himself to sleep as he sees all his colleagues from the "11 o'clock Show" making it big in Hollywood). The show degenerated into a feeble slanging match with sub-pantomime booing of Mrs Irvine's boy Edmund whenever he came out with comments like "women can't drive". Then there was some on track action, and somehow the directors managed to make a two-car time trial in Maserati Trofeo's look pedestrian. I shall, of course, be tuning in tonight. |

It was a bit silly, but also a bit of light hearted tv, with a decent idea behind it.
Didn't appear to be much focus on the actual driving as such. |

You can just catch the last 20 minutes of it on Sky two.

The 2nd episode was the Thinnest of Television Gruels. Due to a roll-over incident with one of the two monster trucks on hand, they had about 5mins of actual footage to stretch out into an hour's programme.
I believe it is Mini racing on tonight's (Wednesday) show. |

Was it me or did they like to try to be funny?
Then add "let's see that shunt again!" Awful, but as Knowlesy says, it's so crap, i have to watch it! |

a) Minis can be quite exciting, in a way that F1 demonstration (is that any different from an F1 race other than having 19 fewer cars?) isn't. b) Marshals have a purpose. So, will I watch any more of this 'thrill-a-minute action-packed race series'? Nooooo. |

It is car crash TV at it's finest isn't it..
I Sky+ it so I can skip the 60% of the show that doesn't need to be there, but I am enjoying Tamaras improvement, she's grown from a completely hopless heiress on episode 1 to last nights kamikase effort in the Caterhams, with even Irvine noting she's the one with speed. Can't stand her smile or simpering voice though. Jenny Frost from Attomic Kitten is more of a man than most of the men, foul mouthed, an animal behind the wheel and sexy as all hell! The show is obviously biased towards the women, every time the lose the "The race director(ess)" a bizarre decision robs the men of their win so they don't storm to an easy win, I guess they have to pretend there's some sort of competitive element. Finally the show was doomed from the start, the incredbly poor production values, and Outens inability to spot a bad line coupled to the terribly miss matched teams, 5 men with racing/flying experience against 5 women only 1 of whom had shown a previous interest in racing, where's Jody Kidd or um.. well.. ok, I see their problem, but they could have dumbed down the men a bit in that case. Having said all that I'm glued to it! It's crap but it's crap with a cold Silverstone and Jenny Frost to look at so I'm happy. |

Not to mention that terribly annoying co-host. Lee someone, or Ian somthing. Irritating whiny little prat. Thinks he's really funny.
I just hope he irritates Nigel Benn enough to have all his cheekyness punched out of him on the last day. |

OK, I'm liking it less as the week goes on.....
I love the fact that the live tv element of it is, as far as I can work out, coming from garage "0" under race control. It must be freezing in there On an anorak'y point, presumably as it's racing it requires an MSA permit? |

I must admit I was looking forward to the show but everytime it finishes I wonder why I bothered......just total dog dirt. The racing element is quite good though.
I am a (was) fan of Eddie Irvine but he is just a joke.....he is coming accross as a complete ****** and doing himself no favours what so ever. |

After reading this thread I recorded the Wednesday show and sat down to watch it last night.
I must have managed about 10 minutes, but that was it. Recording stopped and deleted. It is every bit as bad as people on here have said. I can't imagine what persuaded Coulthard and Irvine to get involved. Surely not money and definitely not prestige! |

As an additional point - is Irvine going bald or why does he insist on keeping his hat on? And that Damon Hill/George Harrison har is really irritating me!!

Poor David Croft. He had such credibility doing the GP commentary for Five Live and a bit of darts on the telly - and now this.
