I’m impressed if someone thinks Sandy is semi professional!! Now that OC bloke who drives with him is possibly the best driver in Historic’s. Our lot got collected by a spinning MGB when they were lapping him. |

Indeed a rare beauty from 1988... powered by a 3.3 DFL Cossie. Designed by Gianni Lo Bartolo
Had a number of DNS/DNA's that year due to various unreliability issues, but finished the Silverstone 1000k race 16th. Edit: Just found a thread here on tenths about it. https://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117273 Also here: https://www.racingsportscars.com/typ...s/GLT-200.html |

OC most definetly is up there amongst the best in historics, Sandy tends to drive with Andrew Kirkaldy mostly now who being former Mclaren GT is very quick.

Really nice pics drbob, thanks.
Well done Chris, nice profile with "ce je ne sais quoi qui la faisait ressembler Ã*" … Well in fact might be another from this era. Mike, are you busy on the podium? PA's website is unavailable at the moment. |

Cher Monsieur, John Rouston. If my memory serves we already had this kind of discussion before. I'm sorry because I feel you're upset by the words semi-pro. Please believe me, this is not an insult and will not diminish the respect we have for many of your drivers. I could add Simon H or Sandy O' and many others ex-BTCC drivers. Fact is I was talking about my friend, he's 54, its his first owned racing car and he makes only 2 or 3 races a year. So finishing third under those circumstances is a kind of victory in itself. At least against bad fortune! Hope this makes things clear and that you won't keep hard feelings. Faithfully yours. Gérard.

Indeed, I like that a lot, thank you. That’s how a Corvette should sound!
I asked someone (that takes the trouble to know these things) about the 917 Langheck in CER1. It is the restored (or recreated) car that John Woolfe lost his life in at Le Mans in 1969. I think Willi Kauhsen was involved in the rebuild and may own the car as well. The CER1 race started on a slightly damp track, so many including (our) B19 went out on dry tyres. The rain got heavier and at the driver change most swapped onto wets if they hadn’t started on them. This obviously cost time, some more than others hence confused positions mid race! We eventually got class P4 so that should mean 2nd in the Under 2L Championship. I had to feel for one mechanic who was tasked with changing all 4 wheels on a B8, on his own and with just a trolley jack and socket set. Took over 10 minutes..... |

Cheers for asking about the 917. It was at Le Mans Classic last year with original livery but I think crashed in Night Practice so I imagine they've rebuilt again since then and put a new livery on. Not sure what happened to it in the race or the yellow 512 M that didn't leave the paddock once during the weekend. Odd... I imagine they were shaking it down pre Le Mans as you mentioned some would be doing. |

We are obviously getting our Watson’s muddled.
I’m talking about that PR expert Sandy Watson great bloke! Agree Simon H , Martin S, Richard Bradley and evening Grumpy GB are very good drivers MOC in my opinion is at top of historic pyramid! Only downside to that is the top of historic pyramid is the shortest pyramid in motor racing! |

Was impressed by Dan Gibson in the T70 winning in his first race in that car for a while winning by 25 seconds, the only car quicker lap wise was the ROFGO T70. Shame he only occasionally races. |

The only problem with the list is that several of them have been at this historic stuff approaching thirty years and are close to pension age!

The age of drivers/owners is the major problems with Historic Racing .
Very few of young drivers own cars , The car owners are either family or some elderly old fart who likes to be involved! Cost of cars and lack of mechanical knowledge of younger set doesn’t help! |

Agreed John! Another major problem when age comes is that we have a "slight" tendency to repeat thing again… and again!
Will thanks for the link, great video. may be its part of the epic battle Merlin/ Stretton. I guess Merlin bought the ex-JD Classics car and uses a 3.8 litre engine now. Fantastic song! Edit: Sorry its not M Stretton. Last edited by Gerard C; 20 Oct 2019 at 20:21. |
