I heard both this and that teams may be pushing it on pressures and whatnot. I love that they force some double stinting, since the pit stop rules don't provide any tradeoff in that way anymore.

Mind you, those cars had 90 liters or fuel on board and the R10 was a diesel, but I think that 35 minute stints are a bit short. However, LMP2s and DPIs are supposed to be making about 600bhp (a bit less than the R8 and R10), but that's a lot more than the old Nissan LMP2 V8s (450-480 or so), and more power means that you're burning more fuel. |

Daytona is unique and tire issues aren't unique to the track, but there's plenty of data that could be used to assist in building a hard enough compound. It's not cold, but at 66 and many laps of green flag racing heating up the cars nicely, coupled with both FUX and IMSAradio questioning camber angles, pressures, etc., I don't think a finger can be pointed straight at Conti. It's their tire, however.

I do have to say that the BMW M8 looks pretty sexy IMO. Audi might by my favorite car maker, but BMW is certainly in my top 5 favorites.
Also, watching the Porsche onboard, I have to say that the GT cars have steering wheels now every bit as complex as a LMP1 cars if you take away the hybrid system controls. |

There are some interesting factors working together right now that really make this feel cool. Yes, the cars are bop'd together, and are very well mixed in the order. But, without the frequent cautions, they're still spreading out and we're down to 7 or 8 on the lead lap with 19 hours left, as opposed to like 14 out of 20 we would have with frequent cautions. It has that "endurance" feel, and yet is still close racing where one minor thing, like a puncture (which btw, might not have happened with frequent cautions, because they wouldn't have to push so constantly) really makes a difference. With this environment, a pass by or wave around where some cars can gain a lap back during a caution isn't such a cheesy thing, because teams can't rely on it or bank on it at the moment. It's like the wave around rule works just fine if the race is able to be run mostly green. I'm loving this.

From the times, it looks like Fassler hasn't stopped and is still on slicks in the 4...
Edit Pilet in the 911 could be, as well. |

The Fox coverage is so awful it's ruining the web coverage by virtue of using their terrible footage.

I think Fassler, Villander and both Porsches are on slicks.
Perera as well. |

Yup. Fassler was the slowest of the bunch at 2:05s. Now he's down to the 2:02s and 01s that the other 3 were running. Seabass in the Ford is in the 1:58s but Dixon just dis a 1:55! So did Jan.

Outside of Fassler, the others we thought were still on slicks are now matching the Fords and others we knew were on wet. It's drying enough
Edit - Fessler is shown in the pits |

Pilet is flying in 911 Porsche. Not sure what tires he is on. 4-5 seconds quicker than anyone.
