Kevin, welcome. Any chance of reporting back on any of the races once the season gets underway?

With historic S2000's constructed by Lola, March, Tiga, Chevron etc the basic design/engineering on these cars is not so very different from the earlier FIA 2.0 cars.

I have one of the later Chevron S2's and looking at the lovely B19 and B26 on the autosport stand I know that a lot of the details are quite similar.

Where else can you race a sports car from one of these manufacturers on a reasonable budget?

The club is well run, has some good venues and more importantly nearly always gets the garages!

I hope the HSCC do not let S2000 cars run in their new series, especially if grid numbers are low, as it will undermine the SRCC and its own very considerable efforts to run its own championships

Wel, it's just a case of starting a thread and giving us a brief report with pics. I tend towards pictorial reviews (plenty of examples of those in the archive for this forum) which means just a small amount of text with plenty of pics to illustrate. Others provide more text. Whatever you can do and you feel comfortable with, would be great!

Exactly Bruce; we need to nurture and support both.

There's always a good selection of cars for sale on the club website (including last year's Pinto championship winner - its driver is stepping up to Duratec)

There are also a lot of cars that are available for sale by word of mouth, if you go to the 'for hire' section the names listed there between them probably know 90% of the cars available in all the classes.

Something I didn't bargain for when I started this thread was the possible influx of new posters, but it seems there's a whole bunch of posters out there who follow/compete in the S2000 historics that could find this forum of interest.

I enjoyed Sports 2000, specially in the early days with the likes of Frank Sytner, John Brindley, Ian Taylor, John Webb, Sid Fox, Rod Gretton, James Weaver etc all slugging it out and the odd appearance by the likes of Davina Galica, Mike Wilds and others.

Often good racing although the cars did start to look a bit strange after a while. These are from a late 80's Formula Ford Festival meeting.

Personally, I think they do have a place in our racing heritage. Some well known constructors were involved. Lola, Tiga, Royale, March plus all the S2000 specialists. If they are happy doing there own thing, that's great but their place in late 70's and 80's racing should be considered worthwhile

Wow this site is amazing, like Kevin Cooke this is my first time on here and didn't realise the depth of experience there is out there with S2.

I am passionate about S2 and seeing all these old pics makes me realise I must get down to it and get our next magazine out (issue 10). My plea is to anyone out there that has pics, literature or any information on Sports 2000 over the years that could be loaned to me to get copied. With some text would be even better!!

On the cars for sale front email me at EDIT P Mallett: E mail address removed please use pms. as I know of several historic S2's for sale including a couple of Lola T492's. Only restriction is they can only be sold in the UK, they have been programmed to self destruct if they go abroad!!

I have been trying to get a race with the HSCC for some time as I would like to have one of our historic rounds with them, especially at a GP track. Now that would be awesome as we could then have a grid of nearly 50 two litre cars!!

I can only echo what everybody is saying, come on board and have some fun whether you are a novice or experienced racer they are such a pleasure to drive.

I remember when I bought my first car a Lola T592 for £3000 and took it for a test day at Brands I couldn't believe how easy it was to drive past twin Turbo Corvettes, any Ferrari you care to mention, Porsche you name it and I was tail end Charlie in those days!!

Any questions or if I can help in anyway just let me know.

Colin Feyerabend

Well good things come to those who wait, or maybe not so good for all considering the "thankfuly" from Peter , but right or wrong the HSCC have allowed entry to the 2019 Pre 80 Endurance series for all Sports 2000 chassis eligible for FIA Appendix K classes S2/2 and S2/3 in Periods I & J so basically all cars running in a specification available before the end of 1990. Considering the extremely thin grids suffered by the series last year without some kind of boost it was unlikley to continue. So time to dust of those mothballed cars, with races at Silverstone GP, Brands GP and Spa, there are some great events, more details can be found at https://www.historicsports2000.com/pre80endurance

Wow, 2011. Yes at the time the S2000s were totally.ouyclassed by the sports racers. Hence my scepticism. For the record if there were full grids of S2000 cars I'd he pleased since they follow on from the FF1600 and 2000 grids.
